Ladies and Gentlemen,

In order to get the ball rolling for those of us who are interested in founding a Steampunk city, I have put together a short census to help determine if such a project is actually possible.  If you are interested, fill out the census and send it to me via pm.  After a week I will return to all participants a general summary of the data and recommend convenient areas for colonization, the leadership models favored by the most people, and the over all willingness of people to engage with this project.  Because of the nature of these sorts of things, I will keep a running tally as people show their interest over time or change their minds, of which a summary will be made available to the participants.  In all other cases, I will keep detailed, person specific information to myself.  If you have any questions, feel free to post them here.

Let the games begin:

Steampunk City Census

What is your ideal living situation?

In your opinion, what would be the best leadership model for this project?

What is your current city of residence?

How far would you be willing to move to be a part of this proposed community?

On a scale of 1 to 10, rate your desire for creating a Steampunk community.

On a scale of 1 to 10, rate your desire for living in a Steampunk community.

There have been numerous threads on BG over the years like the current 'Would You' topic involving interest & availability in creating a real steampunk community.  Ones I recall off the top of my head have included a free-standing small town, a farm community, an abandoned factory, trailers & train cars, etc.  Most or all of your questions have been answered in those threads, you might want to use the BG search engine to read what has been written as background material. markf

That's exactly the problem, it's everywhere.  How many of those people are still interested?  How many of those people are going to commit to the project?  And if people are put out by answering these questions again then they can just copy/paste to their heart's desire, or not answer them.  Seems to me that everyone is singing: "Wouldn't it be nice if we were older (or richer, or whatever)," but not much else.  This is a call to action, and it will be heeded or it won't be, that's the long and short of it.  I can't say whether or not the community is mature enough to handle the responsibility; this is merely the first test to find out.

I have considered beating the pavement, interviewing every single person who's shown interest in the idea.  At that point though, it stops being a democratic thing, and starts being my thing.  I'm going to stay away from that for now, I'd much rather everyone come together on this.
