You don't hear much about gaming on this site, and that's all well and good, but Steampunk is spreading to the table top as it overtakes the rest of, well, apparently everything.  I keep coming across steampunk miniatures (I'm talking dice and miniatures on a table gaming, not that video game crap the kids are into nowadays) and decided to start posting them.

I'll start with what might as well be a figure of Torvald.

I've been doing Victorian Science Fiction wargaming for the last few years and we have put together quite a collection. Many of our get togethers have been chronicled on my website:

Needs a cigar, and the hat needs to be taller.

Other than that, IKB and the others are absolutely top-notch!

That looks like a cigar right there, and his hat is quite tall enough.

I ordered some of the heads, by the way. My Imperial Guard is in the process of becoming Praetorian veterans. Mostly like late Boer War British, if the Boer War had poison gas.

On another note, Col. Gravis's Praetorians are top notch. Zulu war... IN SPACE!

I've been playing in 15mm for the last few years, and slowly drifting the Weird into my World War II.  But the character level of some of the "boutique" (non-GW or Privateer) 28mm stuff is really alluring.

I work in Eclectic Games, in Reading; One of England's top Games stores,  [/shameless_plug]  Grin, and over the last year or so the number of gaming stuff that I qualify as "Steampunk" has grown quite substantially.

Some of my favourites are:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
From Anima Tactics. (always reminds me of that episode from firefly, you know the one I mean.)

A nice box set of Steampunk minis.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
What every self respecting air pirate needs on guard duty.
By Privateer press, from their Warmachine line, a great game about steam powered war in a quasi fantasy universe. Some  bits are more steampunkish than others.

Here is a review of a great new (2nd edition is new last month) RPG. The world of Victoriana is a mirror of our own world in 1867 but with some differences.

Runepunk, is a RPG set in Victorian London, but with a strange mix of Steam powered tech and Magic, from a mineral that has just been discovered and quickly developed into the backbone of their technology. Would suit a Girl genius RPG perfectly (although there is an official one in the works I belive). It uses the Savage worlds rules system, which is perfect for high adventure style worlds.

I am running a Runepunk Campaign myself at the moment, I downplay the magic in favor for a more "soft science" background.

The gaming industry has some really great steampunk stuff to draw inspiration from, if you have a local gamestore, go in and ask them what they have in the way of Steampunk stuff, they will, most likely have a few good bits of inspiration, and more to the point, it might be one of the only shops you will ever walk into where they know what Steampunk is  Wink

Anyhow, that's enough from me.

Awesome, and very tempting. I know they're  not entirely steampunk, but I think they fit in well:

I'm currently working on a reaver class. It's 1 foot tall already!
At some point, I also want to use some of the airships i've used for wargaming. Are there any rules(save aeronefel) for larger scale airship combat, or failing that any 15-28mm games that include airships?
cheers,
-Matt

That's a very nice titan, how long did it take you? What more do you plan on doing to it? Apart from maybe some rivets it looks excellent as it is.

I just finished a 1000 point Steampunk Necron army for GW's "paint 1000 points in a month" competition, I gave them all big boilers on their back coughing smoke and a nice brass paint job, didn't have time to convert the destroyers to Martian war walkers (H.G. Wells style) or find some old clocks to take apart for gears, but they came out quite well.

Absolutely beautiful...I used to paint the larger figures when I  was younger about 50mm  but nothing this small.  The detail and paint jobs are just phenomenal.
Loved the mechanical spider.. and Isambard Kickass brunel is just inspired! Hats off and standing ovation to you all.

It took me about 3 weeks, over Christmas 2007. I'm happy with the construction, although I should have spent longer painting it. Have you got any pics of your steamy necrons?

Generals, Gentlemen, Ladies...good evening to all.

I've recently started my WH40K "Praetorian" army.  The quotes are in place because I'm using plastic Cadians with a head swap; I've found that the new-ish Wargames Factory British Firing Line heads are "good enough for government work."  To my old eyes there is a slight scale difference, but not enough to stop me from using them.  I kind of hate to waste the rest of the kit, though.

My current dilemma is what colours to paint them.  Do I paint them up in traditional red coats (but what colour would the flak armour be?) or go khaki and brown?  Perhaps a cup of tea will help me decide.

I'm only planning about 800 points worth, with the heavy weapon squads being heavily converted (check out the parts from the new Bastion and Aegis wall kits...there are bitz there that look like they'll make dandy steampunk lightning cannons and such).

My local shop's clientele is good company, but they only like to play tournaments and Apocalypse.  I've got a couple of foamcore-and-plasticard land leviathans to let me in the really big battles.

Roll high, my friends.

Thanks very much. All of the airships are built from scratch. Mostly form balsa wood and styrene plastic. With a few exception from a company called Ironclad Miniatures all the vehicles are scratchbuilt or heavily modified from existing models or toys. Most of the buildings I created myself and then made molds for production in resin.

Very nice for three weeks work, it would take me months to do anything like that (if I ever finished it)!

I was not foresighted enough to take any pictures, currently they are in the local GW's display case as they were for the "paint a 1000 point army in a month" thing that finished today; I won! So I left it in their case for a week or so (plus it was in my lunch break from work so didn't have time to pack up all 50 or so models). Will post pics when I get them back. I new that a full army in 20 days would be tough, but I had no idea quite how much of a pain converting and painting 50 guys was.

GW had an interactive painter on their website for Guardsmen, I can't find a link though, they may have killed it off when they updated their website.

Sadly, the Bolter & Chainsword forums don't have an Imperial Guard painter, but you can peruse their painters here:

Our group has gone through several sets of rules, adapting some to suit the VSF genre. We have pretty much settled down with a set called Valor, Steel and Flesh.  A great set of rules specifically geared towards battles in a VSF setting.

squigoth = awesome
I love Wyrd.  If I was playing in 28mm right now I'd have found a way tomix them in.

Glad this got the reception it did, I'll keep posting as I find things. Its kinda funny, and a bit full circle for me, as my introduction to steampunk came via gaming (RPGs from R. Talsorian and Steve Jackson back in the 90s) and it sort of went away for a while, worked on things in its basement, and now its back with a vengeance.
