Frau 's right...I'm quite torn 'tween the two...We'll see. At one hand, I've got plans for a new Steampunk/Goth/Dark costume, at the other is a LARP character I haven't played in a while...

The only Dutch steampunk event has been cancelled, due to lack of interest.

Quote
English translation below:
Nox Obscura is afgelast

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nox Obscura cancelled
Due to a lack of interest we are forced to cancel Nox Obscura. Despite the extra promotion during the last few weeks, the ticket sales and website visits didn't show sufficient results. We couldn't guarantee that this event would be a success for either visitors or shop exhibitors. With deep regret we would rather cancel Nox Obscura, instead of organizing an event that didn't 100% fulfill the usual Vana quality standards.
People who have already bought a ticket can of course get their money back. Alternatively we offer that you are able to use your Nox Obscura ticket as a ticket for Keltfest or Castlefest!
Although we’ve had to cancel Nox Obscura this year, it doesn’t mean Steampunk in the Netherlands will end. We saw so many people last year who were inspired by it that we will introduce the theme to some activities at Castlefest 2010. We hope we’ll see you all there in your beautiful Steampunk costumes!

But I wont let this be a downer to make some fun together.
I say, we still have the ability to organise a large steamy meeting.

Ah, well, I now see it more like a sub-subculture that never is going to grow among the alternative market, and always remains lowly accepted. I'm quite disappointed, and I need a hug Embarrassed

Join the group of LARPers Wink A lot of sub-cultures will never receive wide acceptance Smiley Cheer up! It is neither the end of the world or (the growth of Dutch) Steampunk Smiley

I would, but live action roleplaying is just not my thing. Too... "distant"... from how real it should be, so to say. Then again, I may just have bad experience with certain fantasy LARPers regulary visiting my job site Smiley .
I rather have a cozy meetup, visit places and do some scrapheap shopping for a next invention.

Not quite sure what you mean with the bit about 'distance from reality', but I meant figuratively speaking - LARP'ing is an sub-culture as well, and likewise, not all that accepted.

Obviously, those are fun as well Smiley

No, no, nevermind Smiley

I suggest all the interested parties gather on steamgears. They opened a topic about an alternative meeting.

Thomas and I were really looking forward to this event, but no-one we spoke to even knew or had heard about it.  I can't remember how where we heard about it.  Was it poorly advertised?

Yes, I guess so as the people we spoke to that had not heard of it were UK or US.  There is a large group of us that goes to Elf Holland Fantasy fair, Castle fest and Liepzig Wave Gothic Treffen Smiley
I hope it is more popular next year Smiley

Nox was of the same group who organize Castlefest and Keltfest, Vana-Events. Though they claim to have advertised Nox quite alot, I don't have seen any advertisement whatsoever, unlike last year.

Pretty old thread but I'm hoping to reach some of you who were interested in the '09 event. Steampunk is long overdue in NL. I organise costume parties including a big Halloween bash in Amsterdam every year & plan to theme it up victorian-freak-side-show-mutant-evil style this october & fully steampunk it up. I absolutely *love* steampunk fashion & hope this can be a way to introduce it to the Dutch. Thoughts? Anyone on this thread who I can contact for more info, inspiration, leads?
