Just wondered if anyone else is planning on attending this.

http://www.askernspa.com/

They are holding free costume workshops and people are encouraged to attend the gala in victorian attire!

Her majesty will also be in attendance (that's Queen Victoria)

Askern is between Pontefract and Doncaster.

Should be fun Smiley

We are attending Askern Spa. Hope the weather is ok as we have booked a room for the Saturday night so we don’t have to rush off.

Hello Lady Elsie we know what you mean about the web site, very little information given. My husband and I were chatting to the Major at the WGW in April he told us about the Asylum and that we would fit in. He gave us a card so we could look at the web site. We have been booked for a while now and really looking forwards to it. He told us to drop him a line on Brassgoggles but you know how it is time just passes by and then its months down the line. Hope you do come to Askern as it would be nice to see the Major and your good self before Lincoln.

Yours truly Lady Isabella.

Dear All,

I do think that the Major and I will attend this event as it is near home and we are intrigued by this event. We know Ginni Newton and she is an excellent costumier so if she is involved it may be a good event.

So where and what time shall we meet then Ladies and Gentlemen.

Looking forward to meeting you Lady Isabella, Lady Georgina and Sir Ninian.

yours
Lady Elsie.

Yes, the website is rather lacking in information but myself and Lady Georgina will be attendingas it's less than hour away from us.There are no times that I could see but we shall aim to arrive between 1000-1030.

If anyone can find a start time please let us know.We shall contact the VSS phone when we arrive so we can attempt to rendezvous if that is acceptable?

We may even bring a picnic to make up for the Lincoln Steam Rally and try not to lock it in the boot of our car this time Smiley

Sir Ninian, That is a capital idea. the vss phone will be on. if anyone else wishes to join us that will be grand. If the event is a Gala there should be a Tea tent or Beer tent. I am sure we can find that!!!

Looking forward to seeing you both again,
Lady Elsie.

Indeed, we shall certainly be there! There are actually a couple of photographers from Whitby who are keen to take photographs of us in our attire again too if people are interested in getting some quality shots (we got some amazing ones at Whitby!)?!

It will be a pleasure to meet with you again Lady Elsie, and to see the Major again too! Indeed it will be a delight!

Picnic hamper has been purchased... just hoping it arrives in time!  Grin

Now... what to wear!!?? As it's a Victorian gala, I will be going more Victorian and less steamy I feel would be appropriate.  Wink

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The Major and I will be attending this event slightly later than previously planed. We should arrive around 11.00/11.30.ish,as we have to wait in for a delivery.

As it is the bank holiday the staff have an extra day off. So we must be in attendance at home till 10.00am.

Sorry to inconvenience you all. We will arrive in good time for luncheon.

Yours Lady Elsie.

Well the Gala was mildly disappointing, although we were presented to The Queen.  We did however drink coffee eat cake and then retired to the Pub. Where we drank and ate. There were quite a few photos taken which I hope to see soon. Thank-you for your company again Sir Ninian, Lady Georgina, Lady Isabella and Lord Harrington it was a delight to make your acquaintance. See you all in a fortnight.
Yours Lady Elsie.

To everyone who attended the first Victorian Gala in Askern, I would like say what a pleasure it was to welcome you to the town. I hope you also enjoyed the hospitality at Shakers. As a first event I think it was fairly successful but needs even more of a focus on Victorian/Steampunk.......on to bigger and better things next year. If anyone would like to liaise with me with ideas to incorporate next time please feel free to do so. Her Majesty was very amused at the event and hopes to attend in the future. I accompanied her as Dr later Sir James Reid her personal physician for 20 years. I am developing a photographic studio in the Boathouse at the lake which will have a Victorian and possibly Steampunk theme. A small sample of the images taken in the boathouse can be found at my site: www.artemisphoto.net and I look forward to seeing you in there next year. As a member of the Gala committee I would also be more than happy to pass on any comments........
Kind Regards -Derek Collins
ps I hope to catch up with some of you at Lincoln
