What a coincidence, I just posted about electro-swing this morning. I started up a new club in SF where we play that stuff, as well as ragtime, Cabaret, Chanson, Chamber-Pop, etc.

I'm so glad! I haven't liked quite a bit of the steampunk music that people have played me before, too 'punky' or 'rocky' for my tastes. I suppose I fall more into the 'dandy' category of steampunk. I certainly will be checking out those websites.

Of the bands from your label I've had a chance to peruse so far, Cabaret Decadance is so far the most to my taste. It's a wonderful thing that you've done, and I just hope I can find the time to give as much of it as possible a fair listen. Musically my tastes are quite broad, but more towards the acoustic/classical/jazz sound than anything particularly rocky. at the moment anyway. But I do love a good dance beat. At my college ball the warmup act played a remix of Benny Goodman's sing sing sing, and it was just wonderful.

If I may ask, how to you come to set up your own label? And does it produce etc? Or is it more of a community type venture? Well done anyway.

It's definitely more of a community than a label. Label just is easier to use to describe it. Most of the bands are already signed to other labels. So we're more like a collective of like minded artists. And to set it up, all we did was create the web presence, invite a handful of bands, and over the past two years we've been contacted by about 30 to 40 other bands who all wanted to be a part of it. Currently we have close to 50 artists aboard.

This band is kind of steampunk, not as much as others, though they are making an effort. They also have a free single out, which sounds interesting.

since they use industrial machine sounds and all kinds of different things for percussion, i do get a very steampunkish vibe from them.

The leadsinger Blixa Bargeld is also quite dandy

It's interesting the whole industrial thing. And how it could relate to Steampunk, and obviously you are talking about real industrial there!

I'm genuinely expecting the likes of Rammstein, Rob Zombie quite possibly Manson and others of that ilk as well. To be adopting more overtly Steampunk imagery in the next 12 months. I mention them only because of the obvious Ministry influence they all have, who were in turn more directly influenced by Einstürzende Neubauten (how do you pronounce that properly? all English attempts I've heard including my own have been truly woeful)

But yes it seems to make sense. That's one of the reasons I mentioned The Cardiacs, as they mix a lot of machine sounds and samples right along with classical instruments and keyboards and percussion, and standard rock instruments of course.

Although since EBMs' influence really took hold, a lot of peoples idea of Industrial these days, just sounds like Techno to me.

Bring back SPK that's what I say!

This is the right one! Im not german but im from Denmark, and our languages are quite similar in many ways. and the band also has a big fanbase in Denmark.

the ü is pronounced like the y in you.

i must agree im not at all into EBM, it all seems very eurotrash to me, and i've always liked industrial music that seems like you could play it in your kitchen, you know unplugged

Ha ha, I feel no need to defend it as such, but I do like some of it. Although many of the bands seem to be adding guitars and going a bit more metal or rock, (not selling I guess) I was interested to see that Combi Christ were supporting Rammstein recently. I always thought they were one of the better exponents. And I've also noticed some of the more mainstream dance people I know have finally got into it as well. The funny thing is that most of my favourite hardcore industrial techno, doesn't come from EBM or Aggro Tech bands at all!
