Yes, this project has been extended to an indefinet time frame. As I'm still collecting images and written work there is still time to submit some images. Our "people" section is getting wonderfully full, but I can always use more. Also the sections with "creations and machines" needs more, so if you have anything that you have made that is steampunk it can be submitted. As well as the written section, so if anyone has an essay, story or anything really, they can send that my way too!

Roger that.
I have a picture of myself which I think is Steamy enough that I would like to submit, but unfortunately I have no creations worth sending pictures of.

thanks,
Gin.

Would you like pics of some of my airships and thunderbox? Not sure if they're entirely the right thing, but could come in handy in conjunction with photoshop.

Feel free to send as much as you like. I might not be able to use everything, but I will certainly try and get as much as a I into each section. As of right now it is about 15 pages per section, so I need to fill it all up!

Oooh.  I'd certainly be interested in submitting something for the People section... it's merely a matter of getting some more "steamy" photos of me taken.

Nefthys, a lot of time has passed since you began your project, and I would like to submit an updated photo and pictures of my artifacts. I will post within a couple of days.

I'm just being difficult here...but "The People of Steampunk" and then only including people who dress steampunk is a little mean.

I can't be the ONLY person who doesn't dress up and yet I'm technically "a people of steampunk."

...or am I.

The title is fine by the way, that was just my first reaction.

It's the people....not the costumes. It's just a way to honor your creativity. I don't dress up either, I just put on a hat for my avatar. I have been collecting a few dress-up items and will submit a better photo, but a lot of us don't actually wear brass goggles, we just admire them.

Very well put.

Naturally I wouldn't expect a book about steampunk to have pictures without something steampunk in them, I mean I love tattoos for example, but I don't have any so I wouldn't expect to get into a book of tattoos. And as you say especially in this case, the people are the important bit.

Just thought I'd put down my initial reaction and see what reply came of it.

Hence why there is a building/creation section, an art section, interior decorating and a written section as well. It has become a very large project. Trying to cover almost all the basis of the culture means i have a lot to put in. For example, if you had steamy tattoo designs they would easily fit in.

It does sound great, and probably a book I would love to have.
Still leaves me out though...all my steampunk is in my head.

I really need to start putting it to good use instead of just letting it whirr around my skull.

Start with a quick and dirty head shot of yourself as a Steampunk character. See that avatar of mine? My wife and I were in a vintage clothing store and I threw on a jacket and top hat. She took a picture with my phone. That has been the extent of my "character", but I think it's effective and it gets me in the game.

William, my dear Sir you need no Hat to be in the Game, you hands are sufficient enough.

Unfortunately my Steampunk projects serve only as a warning to others and are in no fit state to be publish. Much to my Chargrin, since I would very much like to be within these pages.

Sounds tempting sir, perhaps you need only encouragement from your peers. Let's see the goods!

Oooh, I've only just discovered this thread! Seems it started some time before I became a full posting member!  Grin

I'd love to take part in this if there is still opportunity? I would be interested in the 'Lady' section and 'Crew' section with my fellow shipmates please!

Do I need to pm or email you all the info (sorry... lots of pages long...)

The Elesa is charming. I am having the same troubles trying to braze, and have been using adhesives until I get it worked out.

I just found this thread. (You know, Brass Goggles is a BIG place...)

As Sky Marshal of Dr. Steel's Air Corps Elite, I would most likely fall into the Gentleman category, as the persona I have developed for myself is that of the aristocratic gentleman officer. (Interestingly, I discovered another "Sky Marshal" on another steampunk site who went with the same style, though a different color scheme.) I'm still working on my current uniform, but I think the latest put-together will pretty much be the final iteration. Alas, I don't have anything modded to show off...

Btw, are you going to included a section on the dieselpunk subset of steampunk?
