So I wanted to start making a book I hope to sell in my mothers gallery. I wanted to do the people of steampunk, anyone who wishes to have their photograph in their steamy outfit is welcome. I wanted to have a good quality picture and a little description/story of the character per page. It can be any length, so I can get as many people in as they like. I'll have more of a layout design once I know how many people would be interested. Of course the book would also be for sale here for anyone wishing to have their very own copy.

Once the book gets made, and enough people are interested, I was hoping we could get some signed and sent out by people participating. Just an extra thought.

So who's in?

What would you say to a short story introducing the character being depicted?  I could come up with some light adventure stories for both the eccentric Dr. Heretic and for my-- yet to be named-- diesel/WWII punk aviator persona.  With some help the photos could be used to Illustrate the story a little.

I have some more ideas along this line but I think it might deviate from your intended goal.  Perhaps more of a spinoff project where people come up with stories based on photographs provided by others…

Back to Nefthys’ idea, I would love to help out if I can.

Ah, it doesn't matter. If you have a persona and some kit then why not?

I'm most of the way through what I'm getting together for the steampunk calendar, so I'm sure there will be other pics available - I've also had an idea for a time traveller shoot, though that will involve a bit of travel.

When were you thinking of a deadline ?

(And Gentleman's Emporium now ships to Australia!! Oh, the stabbing pains in the wallet!!)

Anyone is able to participate. I'm going to be doing sections in the book based on steampunk stereotypes. For example "The Mad Scientists" or "The Explorer" and so costumes should represent a genre. People can do multiple costumes and appear a few times in the book if you have multiple persona's you want to represent. There is also going to be a "Crew" section with group photo's of Airship Crews then followed by individual pictures of the crew and their job on the airship. The last section of the book is going to have a snap shot section, so if you have some lesser quality, or simple "fun" photos, they can go in there. They will be represented similar to a polaroid type picture.

So far the stereotype sections of the book are: The Mad Scientist, The Explorer, The Gentleman, The Lady, The Sky Pirate, Grease Monkey, Weapons Specialist, The Villain, and The Seductress. The last section will be the Crew section. Suggestions are always welcome as for new sections.

To participate I basically need high quality photographs with the model name (real or steampunk persona), Photographers name, which section you want to be in, and a short bio or description of your character. If you are unsure about a good quality for your photo, just ask me. Or if you only have lower quality pics, they can go in the snap shots section.

All participants can email their pics and info to steambook@gmail.com

I hope to have lots of people! I am wanting this to be a big project and a big book.

Do you have photo editing software? Because I think I will be unable to provide a proper background for my photo.

I most certianly do have software. I'll be editing all the page layouts anyways, so i can do some editing on photos. Ideally i'd like them ready to go, I don't have the time to edit everyones photos. But i can manage a few.

I agree! Anyone, no matter how new, can be in the book.

As for a deadline I was hoping to have all images and bios in by July 31st. Then I have august to get everything together and off for printing so I can have a book in my hand by Oct 1st. This gives everyone 5 weeks. I'm hoping that will be enough time. I shall endevour to post up an example of what a page will look like to give everyone an idea of how it will be laid out.

For those getting pictures done for the calander and pinup thread, you are very much welcome to submit the same pictures if you like.

Ah good idea! I was also thinking to have a Scallywags and Ruffians section too. It will depends on the photos i get as well. If i only end up with 1 or 2 of a type, i'll probably stick them in with something else. I'm hoping to get at least 5 people for each section.
