We've had this discussion in many threads, and it's pretty much what you make it.

Some people do go the Victorian re-enactment route, and some go for a much more anachronistic approach.

Personally I like to know what would be historically accurate but only to inform and not to conform.

Thank you for introducing the nail to the hammer on this one.  That's pretty much it to a T.  You've got to know the rules in order to properly break them, otherwise you're just wandering around.

Wandering about in time has it's charms, too.
I know a Doctor who might agree with me.

True, but he does know the rules his time travel functions by.  I'm not a fan, but didn't he get rid of one of his adversaries by essentially screwing up a time machine so that it launched the dude into nothing/notime forever?  I'd call that unknowingly breaking a rule!  (As opposed to knowingly breaking a rule, like when Cpt. Kirk thinks real hard about the Prime Directive, and then does what he wants anyway.)

Perhaps he knows somehow that further on down his own timeline, he can do whatever he wants, 'cause
He's Denny Crane! Grin

I think I shall embrace the concept of

"Extended Steampunk"

(which I just invented, and bestow freely upon the world).

It's better than nitpicking and pussyfooting and arguing, and (I believe) requires little or no explanation.

So that's that.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I propose that we happy few are to be witness to the discovery of a long-sought but never found missing link between "Steam" and "Punk"...to wit; the successful incorporation of the T-shirt into Steampunk fashion...albeit with the obligatory deck of Camels rolled up in the sleeve....

steampunk tshirts, you say?
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Its hard to see in the pic, but this is a link to the shirt I've got on:
http://www.topatoco.com/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=TO&Product_Code=WON-PORTHOLE&Category_Code=WON

(Personally, steampunk themed tshirts seem like the equivalent of a Wolverine tshirt: fine for going to the grocery or just hanging out, but you'd feel pretty under dressed if everyone else is sporting a cape and cowl).

Would tshirts have even peen possible to make back in the 1800s?

Not that hard time lines are a good thing, just curious.
