Heyhey, a big hello to all of Brass Goggles.
Long time reader first time writer, I'm curious if there are some Steampunks around Sydney? There seems to be a whole bunch down in Melbourne but the meet-ups they host are a bit of a trek  Cheesy

It would be nice to eventually organise a meet some time, sifting through paddies; hunting for some bargains or heading to a club one night.

Most sydney steam stuff seems to get organised via facebook.

The next steam-friendly event I know of coming up is the 152nd Annual Time Travellers' Convention, at the Bank Hotel in Newtown on the 28th of July.

Hi! First post! I'm starting to do a spot of costuming and this seems to be the sum total of steampunk interaction in Sydney. Just posting to show that there really is interest in the genre - any suggestions where i might be able to pick up some old crystal headphones here? I'm playing with the idea of turning my Nokia 5730 XpressMusic into an aural repository device for music and audio dramas when the plan runs out and I get myself a smartphone.

Cheers

Hey y'all. Man, Sydney steampunks really seem to be letting the side down! Anything planned for 2012 or is it all happening in Melbourne and Auckland?  You'd think with our history and any number of seedy Victorian era pubs we could get something happening!

There have been some SteamPunk cruises that I've heard of but didn't get a chance to go to.

i know a few people who are getting into the steam fashion just like myself (there are about 4 of us!)
we were thinking that maybe the whole Comic / anime conventions would be a great occaison to dress up in! we're going to the next animania dressed in steampunk.

its in march and itll be great to see some other steampunker's there!

There's going to be another Spirit of Distinction steampunk steam train at Zig Zag near Lithgow (not too far from Sydney) on May 19 2012. At our last run in November last year, we got nearly 100 attendees, most of them from Sydney. Great evening. Smiley

There's going to be a Newcastle Steampunk Picnic Saturday May 12th at 1pm in Jesmond Park if anyone from Sydney wants to make the trek (sorry for the short notice, just suddenly thought to post it in this forum). Nothing too fancy, just picnic food and lawn games, outfits and photos for those who have them and plans for those who don't.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/79994941990/ for the Newcastle facebook page and https://www.facebook.com/events/163210890474804/ for the event.

Got the notification too late to do anything - we are away on holidays anyway - but looking over this thread I see that there was no mention of Ironfest at Lithgow last month. It was awash with Steampunk! It is pretty much a general re-enactor's / costumer's event and I know one 'cold steel' swordfighting re-enactor who's costume doubled as a very effective SteamPunk outfit with some judicial additions!

Next year the theme of the event is going to be time travel so SteamPunk will definately be on the rise.

Newcastle Steampunk Ghost Tour
Friday, August 3, 2012
7:00pm

"Mischief, malice, mayhem, murder …The dark history of Newcastle still haunts every corner of its East End." And who better to discover it than a team of intrepid Steampunks?

Come out and discover the history of Newcastle while nattily dressed. Have photos in the old Gaol and investigate the paranormal with your own impressive gadgets.

Price is $45.

Bookings can be made directly with info@newcastleghosttours.com.au and can be paid directly to the Newcastle Ghost Tours http://www.newcastleghosttours.com.au/?page_id=85 .

Let her know you are with the Newcastle Steampunks. If we can get 15 people, we get the tour to ourselves and perhaps even a goodie bag!

The tour is 2 to 2.5 hours and involves walking, so sturdy steamy footwear is encouraged. If it is damp, the tour takes place by umbrella.

Participants need to be at the Muster Point by 6.45pm for a 7pm start and prepay. We meet at the side steps at CUSTOMS HOUSE directly opposite the railway station at the base of Watt st Newcastle.

And afterwards, perhaps we should all go for a bracing whiskey.

Is there maybe a Sydney Steampunk Facebook group? That would make things a lot easier to organise gatherings Cheesy
