Dana, Rene, Jasmine, Ivy, Claire and myself were present for the Steampunk Stroll on SoCo this past Thursday, and I think everyone enjoyed it -- I certainly did.

I figure the turnout might would have been better but for A-Kon this weekend -- I'm sure the A-Kon attendees were probably pretty busy on Thursday with the con starting on Friday.  Perhaps next time....

The high point of the event for me was the constant interaction with the other folks out for First Thursday.

We met a bunch of "Repo! The Genetic Opera" folks (in costume) and they're doing a live shadowcast of the movie at the Lake Creek Alamo on Friday, 02Jul10.  It looks interesting and they specifically wanted Steampunks in costume to come.  I put it on the calendar and here's a LINK to the event for those so inclined.

Overall, a most enjoyable evening!

Repo! is not very Steampunk at all. What a strange request.

I was thinking the same thing, but I think the Designer Hearts folks were more interested in the costumes than anything else!  ;^}

Still, one definition of Steampunk is 'Victorian Sci-Fi' so there's at least a mote of common ground and it does look to be a rather unique and entertaining event...

I will playing with a few members of the North Harris County Dulcimer Society and several members of San Antonio's Texas Dulcimers again at the Texas Folklife Festival in San Antonio this weekend (Hemisfair Park) in The Barn (near the 'back' of the property). Weather forecasts say that it is not supposed to be as hot as it was last year, so it will probably be safe for anyone in the area to come on out and see my fat self playing flute, fife and banjo (but not all simultaneously) along with the dulcimers.

We're taking the club's teaching dulcimers, as we plan to teach interested people about the mountain dulcimer.

So come on out and see what we look like in pioneer duds Wink in period costume...

A sad day for Austin- The Cathedral of Junk is being dismantled.  Keep Austin Weird, indeed.   :'(

hello again, Austinites! I disappeared for a long time, but I'm hopefully back now. I mean, I doubt anyone noticed (I was only around for a few days) but anyway, if I haven't met you yet, hello. And if I have met you, hello again  Grin

Hello all! This is Stephanie, the youngin' you may have met at Epoch last night. I had a great time. I intend to wear some of my get-up the next time we meet. I think that will help other people have an easier time finding us sooner than half an hour before they leave.

For those of you on the Texas Steampunk Ning network, my user name is Abigael Reed.

Anyone who has an interest in Steampunk inspired jewelry, ganghiss and I are taking commissions. Just PM us on either network for more info. Cheesy

It is with deepest regrets that I will be unable to attend this evenings stroll down south Congress. My wife has taken ill and has been hospitalized so I'll be there by her side.
I hope ya'll have fun and don't get rained out! Wink

I'm afraid I too shall be unable to attend this evening's festivities.  Fatigue and the logistics of two-wheeled transportation in conjunction with hurricane residue have simply overwhelmed me.

Instead, I shall remain at home this evening: lamenting my inability to accompany you fine folks.

With Regret,

I thought I'd post on here for those who may not yet be part of the Ning network.

"The Long Center of Performing Arts is hosting the HEB Austin Symphony July 4th Concert and Fireworks at the Auditorium Shores. Free Admission. The symphony orchestra begins at 8:30 P.M. with fireworks at 9:30 P.M. Picnic spots on the lawn are available on first come first grab basis. Performance of patriotic music, including the 1812 Overture punctuated by 75-millimeter Howitzer cannons (courtesy of Texas National Guard Salute Battery).

Big guns and fireworks, this sounds like a right way for us Southerners to cheer the separation of our Yankee forefathers from the Brits." -ganghiss

Atleast my husband and I will be there in Edisonade/Steampunk inspired outfits. We're planning on getting there early (maybe 6ish?) for a picnic. If you'd like to join us, even to just sit and socialize either look for a girl with a brown leather vest and oiled leather tool belt or p.m. me before 2pm. We're also planning on observing a Japanese summer tradition of breaking open a watermelon with a big wooden stick. Cheesy
