Some of us on LJ are planning to go to the new exhibit at the Bob Bullock Texas History Museum-The Forgotten Gateway:
http://www.forgottengateway.com/

and I think drinks at Peche for their sunday all-day happy hour would be nice, too:
http://www.pecheaustin.com/about.htm

We're coming up on the most tourist congested part of the year in March, so getting downtown can be a royal pain(SXSW, U.I.L.,and The Rodeo, St. Pat's all happen at the same damn time-makes for an interesting mix of people, though)

 *Tips hat* Howdy.

Just discovered "steampunk" a couple of months ago and was thrilled to find out just how many steampunks there were right here in the Austin area. Grin
Unfortunately since I'm so new to all of this I don't have much in the way of anachronistic clothing. But that will all change in time.
In the mean time it's just good to know that I am not alone in this town and soon enough I'll be doing my part in "keeping Austin weird".

To the OP what a great list! I can't wait to check some of this stuff out. I wish every town we visited had a list like this going...

We're in Austin for a few months (travelling fulltime by airship roadship i.e. rv) and looking to hang out with some steamy folk, just let us know when and where.
If any of you happen to be of the steamy-goth persuasion we'll be frequenting Elysium while we're in town.

Also if any of you are interested in getting gussied up and being big giant hams in front of a camera at some point, I might just love you forever. Check out my flickr and deviant art pages for some of my photography and then send me PMs telling me how much you want me to steal your soul with my fancy digitronic portraiture device.

We're temporarily docked in Austin, and plan to go to Central Market to catch the White Ghost Shivers this coming Friday (3/27) at 6:30 pm.  We caught them at SXSW this week, and for all the recommendations of their music, I must add my own wholehearted endorsement, and add that their live show is an experience unto itself.  Combine that with an impromptu steampunk meetup, and how could the week possibly be better?

Am I too subtle?

@Abi Haha, I almost don't remember taking that. Yay for imbibed intoxicants! Awesome pics though, glad you poeted them.

Also thoroughly recommending that anyone who is able come out and see the White Ghost Shivers with Emmymau and I. They are amazing beyond words. All the photos, descriptions and youtube videos in the world can not convey the energy and all around awesome contained in their stage show. Plus it would be cool to meet some more of you before we ship out.

I did manged to find this through another photographer so I'm actually processing images from a shoot there right now, but thank you for posting this! It does indeed totally rock, and I'm glad that if I hadn't managed to hear about it, I would have seen this before we left. I totally don't keep up well enough with this board, guess that's my cue to be more active.

Also, dear brethren in Austin, perhaps this would be the perfect opportunity to link the two cities?

The White Ghost Shivers, an excellent band with an old-timey feel, will be performing April 18th in Gruene (near New Braunsfels) for free! Take a listen and a gander at their outfits and perhaps our two communities could make this an impromptu steampunk event! Much dancing to be had!

www.myspace.com/whiteghostshivers

4/18/2009 5:00 PM at Gruene Hall
1281 Gruene Rd.  New Braunfels, Texas   78130
Cost: FREE!!

Also, it seems the Gruene Hall is the oldest dance hall in Texas! How's that for historic photo opportunity?  Grin

Not sure if I can make that work or not, but I'll look into it. That is a very busy weekend for me.

Well, that's one! Who else would be willing to get together? I don't particularly want to go through the motions for a flop, plus an approximate headcount will give me a better idea on what sort of locale to book.

Is there a general good day of the week? I'm thinking that perhaps a friday evening would be well suited to all...

Hmm. Friday evenings, I can usually set out around four o'clock, which puts me in town around seven. Works just fine for me!

Damn!

Friday evenings is my roleplaying night, so it's highly unlikely I'll be able to anything on a Friday evening.
