Hello,
I've just discovered steam punk and this website is really confusing, but anyway I don't live in a big town. . . I live In Snyder, TX, near Abilene, TX. I'm probably all alone out here. I'm just wondering if there is any steampunks, at all near me?. . .I'm so exited about steampunk and all, but there is nobody else that I know of!! :'(
Wow, you
are pretty isolated. Unfortunately your not alone in your loneliness. Texas being the bigass state that it is spreads us far and wide. I too am originally from a small town and had I not moved to Austin I probably never would have even found out about Steampunk.(or at least met others like myself)
The group I meet with meets up every two weeks at a coffeehouse and we have had pretty much the same schedule for the past three years. One of our members lives a little more than an hour away.(quite a drive for a meet up)
Give yourself time and don't get discouraged. Look for Victorian reenactors in your area. (Typically "civil war" or "old west" reenactors)
Folks with similar interest may be closer than you think and like you, just haven't heard of Steampunk yet. Being in a "small town" you might wanna hold off on getting your brass goggles together and running down to the corner store for milk and eggs in a top-hat and waistcoat.(you'd be amazed how many idiots there are out there, even the ones you might have considered "friends")
Look for a coffeehouse type location in your area.(preferably 24/7) If you have a "collage hangout" type place that may be a good place to start. Find a community bulletin board and post a link.
You have already headed in the right direction by posting here. (this is exactly how I ended up with the folks I meet with)

Looks like your between Dallas and Amarillo. Dallas has a huge Steampunk community. I'm sure Amarillo has them too but I don't hear much from them.
You might have slightly better luck on
this page.
Hope this helps and I wish you luck in finding fellow Steampunkers in your area!
