Thanks all for your thoughts and prayers! Shondee came home Saturday afternoon and now seems to be doing much better! Sorry I couldn't make the fireworks show. Sounds like it was a lot of fun! However I forsee nothing preventing me from making next Wednessday meeting at Epoch. (14 July 10 ) Arvis

So, is anyone venturing out to see Voltaire this friday @ Elysium?-they lowered the age to 18+ that night so some of you youngins' can see him.
Not sure if I'm going to make it, Bastille Day parties tomorrow(French Legation & Justine's) and a trip next week might leave me a little strapped for cash. He's fun live, though.

Well, as it turns out, I had to spend the day in San Marcos and won't have the energy to drive into Austin. Y'all have a fine time.

Unless I'm mistaken we just had our meeting two weeks ago and here we are at meeting time again but this time there is no first thursday yet. So in order to keep things on the regular I intend to go to Epoch on the 28th and then meet up at BigTop on SoCo on the 5th of August for first thursday.

Trying to get this out there to as many folks as possible(I already posted on lj Seaholm_steam): A night of dieselpunk fabulousness- Saturday September 11th The Alamo Drafthouse will be screening a fully restored copy of Fritz Lang's Metropolis with live musical accompaniment by Golden Hornet Project. Tickets are 25 dollars and are on sale now! More deets: http://www.originalalamo.com/show.aspx?id=7182We should organize a group to go see this, maybe go out for drinks at Peche or Fado afterward? It's an excellent opportunity to get dressed up and photographed in one of Austin's most unique settings.

I don't see how "Metropolis" is dieselpunk, but it is still one of my favourite science-fiction films!

It's proto-diesel even if it actually was made during what is considered the diesel era. The look(big bizarre machines),electricity playing a starring role and dystopian setting are very much in line with what is often interpreted as diesel. And more generators than you can shake a stick at! Regardless, it's gonna be a fun excuse to dress up.

Remind us as the time gets closer. I have so much on my plate that I might forget. It sounds like a great idea.

Apart from the machinery, it is also a story of "forced" progress looking at what was the future according to people in the 1920's, and a look to the struggle of the proletariat versus the "roaring 20's" careless culture. This story was re-made many times and re-interpreted. Curiously in 1949 the Japanese re-invented the story in Manga form (re-made into an Anime film in 2001), and in that story they tied into the original plot some posthumous criticism on the fascism of the 30's and 40's. The music (all 20's/30's Big Band music) was interesting alongside the Anime!

Hey there. I'm a artist of steampunkery that is looking for events in Texas to sell my art in October. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm originally from Madisonville, Tx and looking for a way to pay the bills to see family and friends. If you want to see what we do check our blog out: http://autumnsteam.blogspot.com/ Thanks a million ahead of time for info. -Winged Man

Welcome Mr. Wingedman. Really as far a local traditional venues for sales that is a somewhat unexplored activity for me. I have a website and move through the web. Austin, however is full of places (we just missed Armadillocon at the historical Driskill Hotel). They had tables for merchants there (bit I didn't attend due to real world concerns). Also, South Congress in Austin is famous for it's hippie-style open arts and crafts markets, plus an array of specialty ( translation: trendy) shops, which Ive thought about. Really selling Steampunk wares is a lot harder than it seems, and surprisingly here in Austin, my best followers are the "mundanes." Austin is still very new and behind the times regarding steampunkery. So no easy answer for you.

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen in the Austin area:
Do we have any plans for tomorrow's meeting? Or is it as usual, just show ourselves at Epoch Cafe?

Thank you for the info J.Wilhelm. This is my first chance in 8yrs. to make it back to the Lone Star State. I'm going to be a vendor at the Freak Show Festival www.freakshowfestival.com so I'll be in the area Oct 23. I've heard a lot about Epoch Cafe through the trends here. I wonder if they would let me set up a table on the sidewalk for a day. Thank You, Andrew (Winged Man)

Armadillocon was reasonable fun, I didn't see any other lab coats, but I did have occasion to loan tools to the best dressed couple I saw. Sadly, there was not as much participation in the steampunk theme as I would've liked. I might have seen more if I had spent more time outside the game room.

Wanted to go but it has been a real busy past few weeks and my work schedule is very unforgiving. On the up side I got a few projects well underway and even near completion, so next year perhaps we will have a much better showing. Arvis
