That's great and all, but where do you buy the tickets from? At extremetix.com they have no postings for the show and i can't find where else to look.

Yeah...  I've been checking all day and there's still no direct link.

If they don't have something up by lunch tomorrow I'll phone them (company phone... nice!) and see what the story is.

Keep us updated! Looking forward to it and am getting my outfit together. Can't seem to find pants I like though. Since I'm more the post-apocalyptic steampunk, I got some boots I like for it!

Ladies and Gentlemen:

As it has been noted, there will be a somewhat busy season ahead of us, including the Green Steam Circus event with Abney Park, and the Ball at Elysium, and of course the upcoming Armadillocon, where I have been asked to invite myself and others in the Austin Steampunk community to participate in panel discussions.  We are also gathering a few new members like Mr. Thax, and I'm wondering if any one has any more ideas for the season.

In the meantime, I'm hitting myself in the head for not realizing that we have a prominent Austinite who would fully qualify as a prime Steampunk candidate:   I'm talking about my former Thermodynamics professor, the honorable Philip Schmidt, from The University of Texas at Austin.

Around Halloween or Thanksgiving he is in the habit of dressing up in Victoriana and playing the role of Sadi Carnot (the famous French engineer responsible for so much Thermodynamics science) to teach a 1-1/2 hour-long lecture to a room full of undergradute students (The real Sadi carnot was very young and died at a very early age, but who cares?  Let's just say he decided to hide away in the province of Texas during the First Mexican Empire!)

He has been doing this for over 20 years and he is still teaching.  The Machavellic thought occured to me that he would be a natural representative and a hoot to have around in meetings!  Do you want to spread Steampunk around Mechanical Engineering students?

From http://www.me.utexas.edu/news/2009/0509_schmidt_chancellors_award.php

"Thermodynamics students find themselves back in 1824 when Sadi Carnot (aka Phil Schmidt) makes a guest appearance to explain his discovery of the second law of thermodynamics. Carnot has been delivering the famous lecture for over 20 years."

Any thoughts??

Well, an insane class schedule has had me so busy I barely got a chance to see the insides of my own eyelids for the last few months, but I have finished those classes and the next 2 (that start today) don't seem quite as unbearable. I plan to return to the meets starting with the next one (this week?) and am feverishly hunting for my outfit pieces. The problem I find is that i just don't know where to get shirts. Victorian era pants are hard too, but as I lean towards the post apocalyptic, I have a little more option there...in fact Captain Robert did a you tube video on making a set from some target pants, so I may do that...

Got some basic goggles and am designing a holster rig..but I need to figure out what to use as a receiver for my pistols. I'll talk to the crafters (read Wilhelm and Folderol) at the meet on that one. Any ideas on any of the above are welcome here. Are there any costumers in our little group here? Seems that you would be a great resource to us here.

Mr parker and I are not costumers exactly, but we do dabble in a few key areas.Goggles
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
for the most part, tho we are moving off to weapons, gloves, spats and jewelry also.  I am trying my hand at a leather Underbust
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
(I too lean toward more post apoco then the proper lady victorian gear) about 3 working hrs into it. I just need to hit up tandy for the  3 front brass d-rings i let slip my mind.....grr.
I would be happy to offer assistance with design or How-To if you would like, sometimes it helps to bounce ideas off others.

....One of these days we will make it out to a meeting !

we were thinking about attending the Elysium ball, but have no formal dress outfit completed Smiley what can I say, I am kindof a girl about that.

I feel the same way! I want to be outfitted to properly attend meets such as the one at Elysium! Like I said, I have my outfit in mind, but need some guidance on where to get a few pieces!

CHAOS!!!!

The network is down at home, the kids moved to Minnesota this morning and the house is a wreck, I got off jury duty, haven't tested the latest version of the gear badge print, added snaps to my field bag, modded my watch fob thingie with a round back but don't have time to etch it right now, sending this from work so there's no time...

LATER!

So I have spent the last few hours trying to go through most of this thread trying to decide if it would be uncouth to butt in, and have decided that it is the only option (you may correct me if I'm wrong). My wife and I are both steampunks, though she leans more to the gothic side of things. We are in San Antonio and find ourselves frequenting Austin (really it just fits us better, but the work is in SA). I wanted to say hi and meet a few people before we attend our first Austin steampunk event (the ball at Elysium).

Also I wanted to tell people about my wife's shop. She makes corsets, jewelry, and accessories. Some are steampunk, some are gothic, some don't like to be classified but are flattered that you try. I also dabble in the making of chainmaille, specifically I try to combine my steampunk aesthetic with chainmaille designs. Her shop is at

So, hello to all. We look forward to meeting you in the near future!

I too shall butt in. I am currently situated in Corsicana but find myself in Austin frequently.

Alas, it is a sad state of affairs, but due to events beyond my control, I am making the journey to Dallas on the 13th and will not return until the 16th. While Abney Park is at the top of my list, these events do not allow me to change the schedule. Perhaps we can journey to another show soon. Hope you all have fun!

Sorry to hear that -- you've been rather scarce lately!

At this point I'm almost afraid to ask, but who IS going?

I and my other half will be attending, so that's 2 so far...

Blame the educational institute for that. I have been knee deep in essays. As I will finish the first semester of 2011, I have to keep going strong!

I saw mention of Armadillocon earlier, and mention of Fireflyesque styles fitting into some people's steampunk style.  This prompted me to register just so I could post here!

Besides being and avid fan of Phil Foglio's "Girl Genius" online steampunk comic, I am also recurring game-demo volunteer from a local game company (Steve Jackson Games) in attendance at Armadillocon, and one of the biggest hits I have is the all-out battle in the Munchkin card game when the space and western decks are combined in what is lovingly referred to as Firefly Munchkin.  I save my best prize to be handed out for that game's winner.  There is another set in the same line that is Munchkin Cthulhu (sort of in-between Sherlock Holmes/steampunk/Lovecraft, if you know the Munchkin games at all.)

If you don't care for card games, I have other goodies, not all of them from the one company.  I am also prepared to show blatant favoritism for a decent number of causes that seem completely reasonable to me, like best Steampunk OR Browncoat wear!

Well, that's four!  Quite the turnout thus far.... ;^}

Actually the turnout may be huge since it's drawing from a whole bunch of genres.  I guess we'll see when we get there.

My attendance is largely going to hinge on rain chances.  Barring monsoons I should be there sometime in the early evening.

So it looks like Mr. Parker and myself will be attending the ball on the 22nd at the Elysium! Hope to see you all there, and if you see me please come talk with us ( just look for the blonde dreadfalls)  We are very much looking forward to it and meeting our fellow local steampunks!
