Incas...add yourself to the map so we can get an Idea where you are in relation to us and the meeting places.

I'm way down in San Marcos, so anywhere's gonna be a bit of a drive for me.  No biggie.

Regretfully, I missed the meet tonight. Other pressing matters demanded my attention and time and likely shall until classes are done. Perhaps next month will prove more promising.

In lieu of actual contact, I shall just show what I'm working on here:

Simple but effective. I have plexi cut for the inner lenses and the secondary lenses will be smelting shades. Just need to pick up some leather (which I've been inexplicably putting off) and then it's on to the joy of riveting.

Beautiful work sir! I look forward to seeing the finished product.
We had a good meeting With J.J. Folderol, Wolfdarkangel and his lovely wife "Kitty". We discussed many issues from costuming and gadgets to movies and photo opportunities. The meeting spanned from six until ten and we parted ways reluctantly. (probably more to do with the cold than anything)
Epoch is a great place to meet up but does have it's drawbacks.(nothing to entertain the younguns and the atmosphere itself is not particularly family oriented) In retrospect I'm not sure I'd want to drag my son up there for four hours of chasing around a three year old. Tongue
Perhaps the next meeting should be held indoors. Input from other parental steampunks would be more than welcome.

Good Day Ladies and Gentlemen:

I thought I should introduce myself to the Austin group.  My name is John "Wilhelm" Dunn.  I've barely discovered your group (including Seaholm Steam and Diesel) since last week.  I don't know if I can be considered a Steampunker (I don't dress up or follow the lifestyle), but I am definetely involved in the manufacture of items that fit the category Grin.  This is an endeavor I just started as an additional enterprise, mostly out of severe need for financial supplement due to the fact that I am an unemployed aerospace aeronautical engineer.  Anyone in need of air-worthy vessels?

To give a you a spoiler, here I present my "Calculation Engines," of which I thought that Austin is a natural place to produce these type of artifacts:

I look forward to meeting you all.

Greetings Wilhelm!

I discovered your calculation engines on Friday last while perusing Craig's List on a different matter.

I cannot help but wonder if this is mere coincidence, synchronicity or the result of a disturbance in the aether brought about by the esoteric powers of superior minds?  ;^}

By the by, I *personally* don't think it's necessary to dress in any particular manner or engage in a 'lifestyle' to be part of the Steampunk Aesthetic.  It's also an artistic endeavour that may be approached through 'gadgeteering' as many folks have done.

Dear Prof. Folderol:

Yes...yes...disturbance in the Aether, no doubt!   (***hurriedly adjusts knobs, and inspects dials, Evil Laughter ensues***)

Get you hands off those dials! We could use some disturbance from time to time.

Just checking in to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving and say I hope to see you all soon, Wednesday after Thanksgiving perhaps?

Do we still want to meet up at epoch?

A good question Wolf. I'm good with Epoch but folks with coglings (young children) may not find the place to their liking. That being said, anyone who haveth small children should make their wishes known as to where we can meet that may have a more "family oriented" atmosphere. Epoch is not "unsafe" for kids however it seems to be more geared to the university student body and possibly a sort of 21st century beatnick crowd.

Welcome to our newest colleague Mr. John Wilhelm. Your work is impressive and I look forward to seeing more. I hope to meet you at our next gathering this coming Wednesday (02-Dec-09).

I'd stay with Epoch for now -- at least until there's some scouting of alternate locations done.

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen:

I'm pleased to make your acquaintance!!  I'm just barely getting over my "Turkey Hangover," and  I may have an interview next week at UT, but I'd like to assist the meeting if nothing gets in the way--I'll keep you posted if something comes up.

I don't mind "college crowd" places, as I really never left the "college crowd" mentally speaking Grin  On the the other hand, I've been to Epoch and that place can really get jam-packed in the evening, so I can see why that would be a problem for the Coglings.  I know other coffee places, but all are "UT-crowd pleasers."

As far as suggesting family-oriented places, I have only but one place I know, which is not a coffee-house and may not have a location that is close to all, but it is definitely family oriented and fairly easy to find (and park!..they do have coffee though...).  This joint happens to be a favorite of social and study groups, because it has large tables and plenty of room in the evenings.  It's a Gelatto/Sandwich shop called "Kneaded Pleasures" next to the Post Office on Far West Blvd (1-block west of Mopac).  The owner there is a friend of mine...the kids will have plenty of sweets to keep them entertained Cheesy

JJ is right we are ok with epoch, but we really need to scout a new location. I for one don't mind little ones being around so i would like to find a kid friendly place for them  so that our fellow friends don't feel that they can not attend because of no babysitters are available.

Sounds good just post the location on the map so we can all see if possible to go there.

So is Kneaded Pleasures the choice then?

If so, I'll do adverts on some other sites.

Let get the general vote and see what sounds good to everyone. They do close at 10pm which tends to be our usual departure time, but i like to keep my options open just in case any of us would like to stay later if we wanted to.

I'm willing to try another place if it will bring out more folks. As far as leaving our options open after 10P.M. we can migrate back to Epoch if necessary. That being said, I vote for Kneaded Pleasures.

I'm in...kneaded pleasure sounds good to me and Arvis has a point we can always go to epoch later if we like.
Besides it's good to be at a place were we can get something to eat as well.
Six o'clock still good or do we get together at Five.

Esteemed Colleagues:

It goes without saying that I vote for Kneaded Pleasures, since I suggested it.  So 5 or 6 O'clock Wednesday?  That should pose no problems for me unless a meteorite decides to crash in Austin.

OK.  Kneaded Pleasures at about 6:00.  I'll toss some ads around the other sites.

Much to do...
