my days at work are locked in at me having thursday night and friday night off, if any one wants to meet up at a coffee shop in austin some time in the future.

one of the nice managers was kind enough to log me in as not available those two nights. (finally some recognition for my hard labor  Tongue)

I'll be at the show at Elysium tonight, with a few friends in two, and I'll most certainly be dressed up! Feel free to say hello! I hope to meet many of you Smiley

Edit: and if people would like to meet up sooner for dinner or an early coctail, shoot me an email to miss.nelle@gmail.com. I'll be out and about, but I get email on my phone Cheesy

We're in North Austin and would love to meet some other local Steampunkers. If someone organizes an informal meet-up, we'll certainly be there (assuming it's in a kid-friendly place - we have a 5 year-old mini-Steampunker in our household). Smiley

We're trying to meet bi-weekly, think next week is the next meet up. Should we shift to Thursday once in a while? since this one is already planned, leave it where/when it is, then maybe switch the next one to Thursday somewhere a little more south, maybe pull some other steamers out?

Oh, Parker's and Quinn, your link on the map doesn't work.   Sad

Looked for you but must have missed you some how. Sad (I was looking for your hat) Had one hell of a time! If you were there I was one of the guys hanging out with the guy in the viking hat and leather armor. WOW, if if all the folks who went dressed in steampunk to this event are indeed "steampunk" then there is quite a comunity here in Austin! I counted no less than twenty.
Well, I'm still buzzin.(and horse) so I'm off to bed. G'nite

Indeed I found him, and extended your regards as well as my own! A capitol fellow he is and was pleased to meet his acquaintance. Cheesy Met with Voltaire as well and got some photos. If I don't get them up this weekend defiantly by the end of next week.  As it is, I'm  on a time travel expedition starting this Friday Extending through Monday. (I could be back yesterday to tell you all about the experience, but then we run risk of ripping holes in the time space continuum and you all know how messy that can be)
Anywho, it will be a time tour from late B.C. though the late 1700's I shall do my best to make it as well documented as "soberly" possible.

thanks! and yes, he is a capitol fellow. if I would have known voltaire was playing I would've asked someone to say hey to him for me too since we missed each other at dragoncon due to busy schedules. anyway, do enjoy your travel old chap and watch out for trees growing in your stationary spot. it would do yourself no good to arrive after a bit of shrubbery has already parked itself there.

Sorry I haven't been around as of late. As I returned from my time traveling venture I seem to have contracted some sort of virus that brought forth many flu like symptoms. Tongue  In as much I have been less than motivated in posting photographs of my travels. I hope to remedy this before Friday.

Today being the 11Th of November I had initially planned on being at Epoch coffee house at 6:00 P.M. however I'm still slightly under the weather and have no will to pass on any "bug" I may still be carrying. There fore I remain at home. Sad

Happy anniversary! Time with your family (especially the missus) certainly trumps hanging out with near strangers any day.  Wink

Thanks for the condolences. Next regularly scheduled meet up should be the 25th. Being so close to the holiday this may not be the best of times for such a meet up. Perhaps with today's meet up having fallen through, we could try for the 18th instead?

Just a thought, I'm open to suggestions.

 Ah, just as I suspected!
I too will be unavailable on the 25th for a meet up. However the 18th still posses no obstacles at this time.
My sincerest of apologies for not posting sooner that was not going to be present for last nights meet. (I was in hopes of feeling better that evening and it just did not happen) I will not miss the next one.

So, how did you like Epoch? Was it an improvement over the kick-butt location? Did we want to try yet another location?

Currently looking forward to the 18th.

Been to Epoch a few times before and it's not a bad location, but we would really have to know how many would be showing up so that we can find seats for everybody. The next question is should it be outside for those who smoke or inside and have the smokers go at their leisure.
I say the 18th sounds alright for me since the 25th every will most likely be with family.

Inside is fine. I'm a smoker and like an excuse to get up and move around. I am working on quitting though and a non-smoking atmosphere could be helpful for that. I don't mind outside if that is the preference though.

Epoch was good.  I liked their sign and the latte was okay but the bathroom graffiti was a bit odd ...interesting but odd...

The 18th would, I think, be a better choice.  Lots of family stuff and travel on the 25th, so probably a not so good a choice.

Aside from that...

** The CuSO4 solution is saturating nicely with a good clear blue color.  Hopefully I'll be able to do some plating and experimental etching this weekend. (My home made stuff is decidedly green... don't know what that's all about.)

** The Enflamulator is still in work.  I can't quite get the pivot point for the snuffer right.  (Eventually.)

** Been thinking about a piezoelectric cane and wondering if there's enough kick to fire up a tesla coil winding.  It would be interesting to light up with crackling electricity every time the cane hit the ground...

Later....

This sounds like something I'd love to get in on.  I don't know why it's taken me this long to look up other steampunks in the Austin area.  I look forward to the opportunity to meet some like-minded folk.

Incas...add yourself to the map so we can get an Idea where you are in relation to us and the meeting places.

My wife and I visited Betsy's bar last night, and I think this would be a great place for us to meet up sometime. It's atmosphere is ... interesting.

I would love to work with you on that Cane JJ, as I have need of one form time to time. We'll talk more on Wednesday.

Is Epoch kid friendly? We'll be having a five year-old in tow. It's okay, though, she's smart as hell and cute as a button. Wink

It seems to be okay.  I didn't notice any toad-eating mutants (well.. maybe one, but I suspect he was a gelding) that would present a hazard to a small child, nor were there any signs stating: "Children and Other Small Animals Forbidden."

It should be all right if you obey the leash laws.  ;^}
