A good dinner would most assuredly be a good thing.  And probably cheaper and better quality than a banquet.

I suspect ale quaffing may occur, also.

If required, I could arrange for some tasteful belly dancers among the aspidistras, what?!?  To give it that opium-wreathed flavour...

Nurse When is a bellydancer, too, so - be warned - she may join in.

A regular dinner date would be lovely, and the Old Joint Stock's "Private" oak-panelled room a top venue for small-scale entertainments and after-dinner speeches.

Or perhaps after-dinner alchemical and anbaric demonstrations?

That's outstandingly good luck! Very close to New Street station, and I have a direct train route there (thank you, Great Western Rail.) Do you usually meet outside the station?

We would be arriving at the station, so can meet you there.

Do we have a date for this magnificent meet-up yet?

Not that I'm aware of, I suppose the first question is sooner or later?
For me either very soon (ie. before the end of the week) is good, however this might not give enough notice for everyone else, in which case 4 weeks or so from now should be my preference as I shall be in London for the Easter holls...still see what times are good for everyone else & base it on that.

Fantastic, hopefully it won't clash with the other midlands meet up in Birmingham in April. I'm happy with that, I daresay.

We planned to come to Birmingham to look at the Burne-Jones paintings currently on display in the art gallery anyway (the Perseus series currently on tour from Stuttgart).

I called an checked with the Old Joint Stock.

The oak-panelled "Club Room" will seat up to 25 people for dinner, and they charge £60 for the privilege of having exclusive use of the room (we'd simply split that cost between us).

The following dates are free (I checked Saturdays, rather than Fridays, as I'm sure this will be easier for most people, and can possibly be combined with a visit to the Museum & Art Gallery, or if you need a steam-fix and don't mind the screaming-child-packed steel-and-concrete hell that is Millenium Point there's always the engines at ThinkTank.

18th April (probably a bit too close to London for my wallet...)
9th May
16th May

If people can agree on a date, I'm more than happy to contact them to book.

Chances are we can pre-order dinner to save all that tedious mucking about with menus.

Out of those dates 18th April would be best for me, but, like you say, a bit soon. Couldn't make the 16th but might manage the 9th.

Is the 23rd of may too far away, already occupied by another meet/most folk's plans, or generally unfeasible?  I love the idea of heading to the museum in the afternoon before dinner.

Funny you should say that. I was born on the 23rd of November, 1990.

Go on. Do some fun number crunching and make that creepy, I dare you.

November 23rd, 1990: the 27th anniversary of the broadcast of the first episode of Dr. Who...

Also, November 23rd, 1990 - The first all woman expedition to the south pole (3 Americans, 1 Japanese and 12 Russians), sets off from Antarctica on the 1st leg of a 70 day, 1287 kilometre ski trek.

Is that creepy?
