I was hoping Matt would read this actually, heaven knows I'm not letting him navigate again (Portsmouth to Worcester via Surrey, anyone?)

Just to throw another option into the mix...  Smiley

If people would like a central location, there's the Erewash Valley Society of Model Engineers track in Borrowash (not a lot of information on the web, they're mostly internet luddites!). This is a 1/12th scale track with a clubhouse for cooking, toilet facilities etc. If people like the idea of a basic but enjoyable meal (jacket potatoes & chilli or something of that ilk) and unlimited rides on model steam locos, I bet I can pull strings and either make arrangements to have a group of us at one of their evening events (Bonfire night steam-up, the Santa Special) OR arrange for us to have a shared-meal type thing one Sunday when they have regular steam-ups.

Advantage: very affordable, and coglings are more than welcome. Disadvantage: it won't be "just" us (not that that is necessarily a bad thing, we seem to be recruiting many steam-heads at the events we attend!  Grin), and it's tricky to get to on public transport, car-shares will need to be arranged.

Have a look at the New Years Eve thread,we are having a five course dinner at A Victorian hotel near York and popping over to the National Railway Museum for New Years day! Still room for more!

I personally am looking forward to the Gin and tonic sorbet with frosted grapes.

well, more affordable certainly works better for me, having virtually written this off as likely to be too expensive! This sounds interesting (now to find out where erewash/borrowash is...)

I believe that the admins have created a new breakdown for the geographical boards (we now have a UK section!), as a result we got reply notifications for threads we have posted on .

Hi Mr G,
Are you going to the Steampunk Spectacular on 23rd jan? We are going and I know lots of others are, so perhaps that would be a possible occasion to meet for food first?

Indeed I am, I am currently organising it with a friend of mine. I like the idea of meeting for food first infact, as I would need a good meal inside of me if I am to be drinking all night...

In that case perhaps this discussion for this particular meal should continue on the spectacular thread? Do yoiu want to transfer it as this was your thread in the first place? I dont have anyewhere in mind as I dont really know the eateries in that area.  Ideally a pub named after IK Brunel serving good solid  pub food?

*hmphh* well I'm trying not to be jealous as you lot are all dancing the night away at the Spectacular and I'm sat at home with only the laptop, a bottle of mead and some hummous for company.

Actually, put like that its not so bad   Smiley

Anyway, I've put the idea of a get-together at the Erewash Valley site to my contact there (my Dad, if you must know) & we would certainly be more than welcome. Once the weather warms up! The site is very much at the mercy of the elements, club house notwithstanding, and a muddy field & rain-soaked rides inevitably dampens the spirits. Therefore, will some remind me about this in the Spring and we can move this forward then? With the option of shelter and hot food, its certainly an option for a pre-picnic season meet.

Is the Brass Goggles chat working? We can have a good old moan about the things that keep us apart from our Other Halves/what we would LIKE to be doing.
