I'm just wondering whether there might be any interest in a bit of a gathering not this coming weekend but the weekend after (preferably Saturday) in central Birmingham?  Alas, I don't personally know much about good places to go, so I'd happily go with others ideas/reccommendations for a meeting place.  I could really do with something to look forward to to cheer me up, and meeting a new bunch of people in person (not having managed to get to an actual Steampunk event yet, this'd be my first!) could be just the thing!

Yes I could do that.  Could go either to The Old Joint Stock (near the Cathedral) or The Old Contemptibles (next to Snow Hill Station).

Persons intending to travel by open carriage should select a seat with their backs to the engine, by which means they will avoid the ashes emitted therefrom, that in travelling generally, but particularly through the tunnels, prove a great annoyance; the carriage farthest from the engine will in consequence be found the most desirable.

very sorry but that weekend isn't do-able for Himself and I as we're heading to London for the steampunk spectacular... Sorry to miss you, especially if you need cheering up. We'll have to see you another time.

I also heartily recommend both of the above venues... and possibly also a quick sherbert in the Wellington whilst we're at it!

Where shall we meet up then, gentlemen - in the Old Joint Stock?  And at what time?

Madame Governess, I shall look forward to meeting you on some other occasion, then!

My Saturdays are pretty open, we can't do the pubs on Sundays because they're both closed.  Anytime after about 12 midday I can make.

*Raises Hand*
Drinkies at the Joint Stock as the sun goes over the yardarm ?, sounds fun, although I think I have a prior evening diversion so I probably won't be making an evening of it
See you then....

I have a few watermill-related chores to attend to this weekend, and have a prior engagement on Saturday evening, but I shall endeavour to pop into the OJS for a swift half at some point in the early afternoon.

Excellent!  I'll be the rather tall 50-something woman in a blue skirt, white blouse and black everything else.  I've been trying to sort out a wee picture for an icon here, but alas, haven't found anything that'll crop a picture yet, except the GIMP, which I resolutely refuse to have anything to do with unless/until they put a user-friendly front-end on the thing at the very least.

Having found the place with time to spare I went in & bought a coffee, the sun not yet over the yardarm y'know & settled down with my new book. Didn't realise though that abit later the others had sat down in another part of the bar until I was just about to leave  Roll Eyes .
Anyway, after saying how-de-doo & buying a drink I settled down for an enjoyable conversation with good company until it was time to go our separate ways, so thank you to Miss Moore & Mr Harrison for a most enjoyable afternoons company.

Mr Harrison, Mr Bellows, thank you so much for doing a splendid job of putting me at my ease.  I was really quite nervous when I arrived, but left feeling happy to have met two such nice gentlemen and enjoyed a  pleasant afternoons conversation with them.

I look forward to meeting more Brass Goggles members in the hopefully not too distant future!

Thank you for a most pleasant afternoon!  I'm sorry I had a little before 3 but I had an evening engagement to attend to.  Hope to see you both again soon.

My apologies - having painted some 93% of a room, only to run out of paint, I spent far more time than planned searching for a small tin of the same stuff all over the Midlands. Bah! Still, I managed to install a chandelier as well, so a productive but not necessarily steamy weekend!
