Dreyfuss was rather nonplussed, but he did see the necessity, plus he had been ordered to escort her, even if it meant personally, and he had felt somewhat protective of her ever since he had found out she owned the boheme; at first it had been simple sound business practice, but he had grown fond of her in a way(though he would never embarrass her by saying so) Thus he accepted her offer an plea.

Miss Emma, I understand perfectly. and I am flattered that you trust me to do so. Yes, I will share a room with you.

"We should see if this place has any normal rooms."  Emma thought the meadow room was cute but not conductive to a good night's sleep.

Angel perked up at the idea of Emma getting a room.  "I know which room you should have Emma lady."  She took Emma's hand and led her back downstairs to the book with the pictures.  She flipped through until she found the picture she had been looking for and then showed it to the man behind the counter.  "Emma lady wants this room ok?"

"Ah the gentleman's club sweet good choice." Emma was handed a key with a book on the handle and went back up to get Dreyfuss.

"Our room is across the hall. I think you will like it."  She opened the door and the smell of old leather and well loved books came out.  Inside the room there was a floor to ceiling library with overstuffed looking arm chairs and a comforable couch.  The bed was a masive four poster thing with a ladder to access the shelves that made up the top of the canopy.

"Well" Sigmund said with a devious grin, "I suppose the gentlemanly thing to do would be to stay by you to assure you are safe during the night. And of course three years of advance training in the military and some time with mister O'Landry did not teach me to be such a cad."
He took her hand, leading her towards the front desk to book a room.

Cain wrapped sweets in his coat, ruffling her fur and drying her. The fish took shelter beneath a smooth green rock, staring up with fishy semblance of terror.
"Now sweets. you had plenty of fish for lunch, no need to get greedy." Cain said, shaking his finger at the cat.

LORDY willya lookit all the books! Dreyfuss exclaimed. He wandered in and spied a volume on a shel at eye level, an dwent over, pulled it out, and got a huge grin on his face

"Jane's Book of Aieships!" he said, enraptured."it even has Fulton's old Demologos!and lookat this! Lord Chiltons' Aether Motor Homebuilding and Repair! this is impossible to find! He kept going and pulling out books til he became a bit frazzled, and sat on the foot of the bed, there being no where else close by for him to sit. "Lordy, Miss Emma," he said, having completely forgotten the real reason for teh room's existence, What A Room!"

"Oh, Miss Emma, where are my manners, he said, suddenly springing up from the corner of the bed. please, you take the bed, I'll take the wingback over there. If I could just have the spread..."

Helena found the book of rooms to be fascinating.  "Wow they really go all the way with themes here. Which room looks good to you?"

"Cain come look! One of the button things made the stars dance." Angel had inadvertently discovered they shiny spinney-ness that was disco balls.

Emma handed Dreyfuss the soft thick blanket and yawned deeply. "I think I will turn in for the night.  It is ridiculous really, I am exhausted even tho I spent all that time sleeping earlier." She shook her head and found a half hidden passage leading to a bathroom. "Don't forget to turn the light off when you go to bed." She called mouth half full of toothbrush.

"What a fascinating device...." Cain said to himself, observing the nature of the mirror ball before being temporarily stricken blind by the searing light which bounced off it. When his corneas stopped feeling as if they were on fire he sat beside angel on the bed, watching the stars danced.
"Angel Strawberry-Jam O'Landry, you are the most wonderful creature in this or any other world."
He confessed, kissing her soft lips which  seemed to always taste like strawberries.

Cain rifled through each little room theme, either uninterested or sent into a bright crimson blush by them, He finally settled one one entitled "Teahouse".
As helena and sigmund entered the room, the smell of rice paper, silk, and makeup wafted easily in the air. Racks containing period dress and a stand with heavy makeup stood next to eachothe, urging the new tenants to try them on. Sigmund, however didn't pay that any heed, as he made a beeline towards the table on which a hot batch of tea had been made.

Dreyfuss took the blanket over to the wingback and laid the blanket over it, then took off his coat, and realized the couch next to the wingback would be a better choice, less likely to cause cramps and backaches. So, he laid the blanket over that, used the huge cushion from the seat of the wingback, and put his possibles bag down on the makeshift bed. He gently woke Cleopatra up, (amazingly, she had slept through most of the visit to Angel's room) , and put her gently on the top of teh wingback chair.

He then began taking off all of his armaments, and putting them in the bag. it never ceased to amaze him how he could fit even the nearly-three-foot-long sword in the bag with everything else, without any noticeable addition to the weight or bulge of the bag. Uncle Caractacus really did know his stuff, Dreyfuss thought, when he built this bag HE put the bag on top of the cushion, took off his coat, undid his braces, left them hanging on the uniform trousers, unbuttoned his shirt down past his breastbone, took off the vest and wiggled the wings out of the sleeves, but left the shirt on, then rolled up the vest inside the coat, leaving his shirt on. He got everything else taken care of, and then removed his trousers, leaving his smallclothes on, and put them in the bag, nudging the other things slightly to one side so he could get the bag open, then put everything back in place.

He walked over to the candelabra beside the bookcase bed, and blew it out -- or tried to. When the light did not even waver in his breath, he exclaimed softly, "Whatinna Sam H. Hill..." he looked all around for a switch , realizing that the candles must be electric, and  found a protrusion at the base of the candelabra. He tried to push down on it, then to turn it... but the "candles" stubbornly remained "lit." suddenly, he heard the sound of Emma in the bathroom, not brushing her teeth, and realized the time was short... Suddenly, Cleopatra went "HISSSP!"  The bathroom door cracked open a tad, and his heart jumped into his mouth...

He pointed his finger at the lamp, and said, "turn OFF!" A jet of whitefire shot from his finger, coalesced into a fog that seeped into the cracks and crevices in the candelabra, and then the light went out. He made it back to the wingback chair, stubbed his toe twice before he felt the couch, and crawled in, pulling the blanket down over him, as Cleopatra, still winged, hovered over the foot of the couch-bed, as if on guard.

Emma opened the Bathroom door then, and walked over to the bed as Cleopatra's wings made their leathery, barely-audible flapping sound. "cleo, honey, iss' time for bed, princess." Dreyfuss called softly, and Cleo turned, still hovering, and looked inquiringly in his direction. "Miss Emma's not goin' to attack me, lil' girl. come on, lets go to bed." and Cleo hiisssp'd softly, slowly lowered herself down, to coil perfectly into the space on the couch behind Dreyfuss' knees. Both settled into sleep, then.

Angel yawned but then blinked hard she did not want to admit she was tired.  "Snuggle with me a little bit. I want to watch the stars with you."

"I like this Sigmund. you managed to find the one calm room in all that busyness."  Helena took a seat beside him.

"I take pride in my ability to find the more serene settings in the more chaotic backdrops."
He poured her a cup of tea, the warm, dark brew was much sweeter than the stuff they had drank at the ship. It was almost surely a higher quality tea. Though sigmund's mind was not on his drink, but the beautiful young woman drinking tea beside him. He saw within her strong frame and scars not a delicate beauty...no something much greater. He saw strength and capability, the most attractive thing the young man had seen.

Cain wrapped his arms around the pure beauty of Angel. He lay his head on her shoulder, listening to the soothing rythm of her inner workings.

"We did good things today.  We should always make people happy like that."  Angel said sleepily. Holding her Cain like a teddy bear Angel fell asleep in their nest of pillows.  Sweets may have lost the ability to talk but she still knew that these were her people and curled up in the warm shelter of Angel's back.

Helena put her hand on Sigmund's "I have been thinking about this quite a bit and you should meet my parents.  I think they will like you and I want to tell them about us before some one else does."

Emma went deeply gently in to dreams.  She was dressed in white and George was talking to her but she couldn't make out the words.  It didn't matter much she was happy just being beside him again.  As they stood in front of all their friends she realised that tis was a wedding and she was a bride.  As she went to kiss her new husband, George started to glow.  He held on to Emma saying he was sorry as his glowing body fell apart.  Emma woke up sobbing and feeling a loss like an ache in her chest.

"Are you sure your parents would allow their daughter to be with a man with...these?"
His black, muscular tentacled writhed from the collar of his shirt, curling and uncurling as if they were seperate beings. The black pythons receeded into the confines of his shirt, curling up into tight little coils and pressed against his back.
"Especially after the war this world had with the cold ones. There is quite a bit of animosity towards my kind. I've seen their hate. On the anniversary of their victory they stuff black socks and sew them together into fake cold ones and burn them in effigy."

"Let me show you why I am fond of pants." Helena stood up and let her overalls fall to the floor reveling a painful looking brand that stretched from just a little above her ankle to near her knee.  Her undershirt was long enough to make a dress out of.  She ran a hand gently along the scarred flesh. "This marks me as pirate just as surely as you tentacles mark your heritage.  In many places this would get me run out of town or worse. They still love me and I think they will love you too.  We had no stake in that battle so you don't have to worry about that coloring things.  I thonk you will get along just fine and if you don't I love you anyway."

As she removed her pants, his cheeks darkened as his eyes traveled across her darkish legs.
Sigmund marvelled at the scar, placing his cool hand on the smooth, pinkened tissue as if to ease what burning might still remain.
"Even with this mark you are a paramour of strength and beauty."
He slid his own shirt off, letting his tentacles unravel, their smooth length resting in her hand as his own gently touched her pirate's mark.

Dreyfuss awoke some tim elater, wondering what it was that had disturbed him. he pulled the bag open, found his trousers, teh whitefire pistol, and his sword, and pulled them out, pulling on the trousers, snapping the breeches over his shoulder, and clipping the whitefire pistol and his sword to the waistband of his pants.

Then he heardit again. The barely-suppressed sound of a woman weeping. The sound wrung his heart, making him reach into the possibles bag once again, and remove his flask and the water bottle, along with the soft canvas duck envelope patches that he always carried. In what was one of the most sincere but potentially unwise things he ever did, he went to within a few feet of the foot of the bed, and asked, Miss Emma? I have water and my flask, and a whole pile of patches to dry your eyes with, if you need 'em."

"We are, what we are but I think you are exaggerating a bit." Helena ruffled Sigmund's hair and gave the tentacle a kiss.  "An old sailor told me that love makes you look at things like if you were looking up through a good stiff pint."

"I am sorry for waking you. It was just a bad dream. I had George in my hands but he crumbled away.  I keep wondering if I can really bring him back or if I am just chasing a ghost." Emma took one of the patches from Dreyfuss and dried her eyes.  "I don't mean to be so gloomy I promise. "

"Er...sorry Helena. I was just so..well caught up in things. I suppose the most beautiful thing for me has always been women who can hold their own and put up a good fight. Accompanied with all those skirmishes we've had. This tatoo's a bit of the equivalent to me having a glorious tan which glistend like bronze and long, flowing locks the color of amber wheat."
Literature was hard to come by in the cold one military. Harlequin romances were the only literature he had acess to that didn't have "for your eyes only" stamped on the front.

"Miss Emma, It's alright." Dreyfuss said, as he put the patches down on the table beside the bed, "As much as you've seen, I'm sometimes surprised you don't have 'em every night."

"Me, I was raised up in a place where blood and gore was always just over the next hill, especially before they got the Comanches under control. I was raised to not mind it below a certain level, and I was trained to use  pistols and muskets and rifles and such, but to depend on the sword; it never runs out of bullets. So, bloodshed and such doesn't mean that much to me. I do understand about fearing for ones loved ones, however. If anything were to happen to Nadya or Arac -- Hyacinth, I mean, I'd probably be devastated. I have had nightmares about that. Especially about Nadya displacin' herself into a rock formation or something. I know its nigh impossible, but a worried mind plays tricks on it's owner. Well, I'm just ramblin, Emma," he said. he uncorked the water bottle, and handed it to her. "It's not exactly yesterdays tap, but its wet," he said.quietly. "Ive got the flask here in case you want a nightcap. he chuckled, "Its just as bad as it's always been."e

"I am rather glad you don't have flowing locks the color of amber wheat.  I like the way your hair feels when I run my hands through it." She demonstrated her point until Sigmund almost wanted to lean in to it like Sweets.  "And I like your extra arms."  She very gently traced a finger around the base of his tentacles.

"I haven't had any alcohol since that disastrous wine in New Orleans but I think a swig now might be just the thing so send me back to sleep." In the half light it was easy to see that this wasn't the only night of lost sleep Emma had recently.

Dreyfuss considered pouring out a small amount in the cap so she could see if she could take it. The stuff he carried with him had three purposes:
1. Painkiller (didnt work so well; more than a couple of swallows and his throat often hurt worse than the wound)
2. antiseptic (good for it; nothing was able to live in the highly-alcoholic, slightly toxic brew that he usually looked for when the flask emptied.
3. campfire/offensive weaponry fire accellerant (admirably well-suited))

He gave her the flask, but held on for an instant, warning her, "remember? this is the same stuff I was using to set fire to the zeppelins in Siberia; be careful..." then he let go of the flask, and stood by in case she had a bad reaction to the taste or the effect.

Sigmund's tentacle wrapped around his love's arm, pulling her towards his body.
"What say you and I get some well deserved rest? In the last twelve hours we did sort of save this world and fight off a massive komodo dragon. I would say we earned a little rest!"
He reached into the pocket of his coat, retreiving a flask of stawberry cordial. The sweet liquid smelt even more enticing than the tea.
"Perhaps a little something to help us sleep is in order?"

Emma downed the cap full in one shot which judging by the way it burned on the way down was a bad idea.  Her stomach gave a nasty little jerk but with a large swig of water settled.  A flush settled across her cheeks and she blinked heavily.   "That was rather nishe."  Emma slurred slightly. "Thanks Dreyf.  Emma yawned and let out a little hiccup. "I think it is nap time now." She gave Dreyfuss' arm a hug and used it to ease back on to the pillows.  Ten minuets later she was snoring softly and looked to be down for the count.

"That would be lovey, then we need to find where they hid the bed." Helena sipped the sweet alcohol and rested her head on Sigmund's shoulder. He was very right it had been a long day.

After about an hour of searching, they managed to find the bed which was an extremely comfortable matress and very little else. Made tired by battle fatuige and alchohol he gave a loud and somewhat leonic yawn before laying down onto the soft matress, his tentacles wrapping snugly around her warm midsection, He pulled her close to him like a precious treasure guarded by an ancient dragon.

Angel woke up giggling. Something was tickling her face and going mew in her ear.  "Good morning Sweets.  You are going to have to wait until we go home for breakfast. Cause there is no kitty food here."

The day started soft, warm and jumbled for Helena.  With no clocks or windows she had no idea what time it was but decided any time that Sigmund wasn't up was too early and pulled him a little closer before falling back asleep.

Emma's head felt like it was packed in cotton wool and there was a nasty taste in her mouth but surprisingly other than that she felt better than she had in a very long time.  She remembered hazily the events of the night before and turned a bit pink.  She had made a fool of herself in front of Dreyfuss.  Emma sighed, so much for being a fearless and capable leader. Something was moving at the foot of her bed and without her glasses all she could see was a pail blur.  "Hello?"  Emma called trying to figure out where her glasses went.

Sweets mewled impatiently. Sitting on her haunches and demanding food. Making her motives known by leaping onto Cain's head, chewing a lock of his hair which billowed in the recirculated air of the air conditioning unit above them.
"I think we should feed sweets." Cain said, rather glad he could not feel the claws digging into his scalp. He had to admire the cat's tenacity...

Angel thought for a moment and then her eyes lit up.  "There was a sign with a kitty and a fishy in it near the place with the noodles from last night. I bet they have food for kitties and maybe a toy for her too.  Scraps ate her mousey and her ball is lost."  Angel loved to watch Sweets bat things around and would sometimes dangle her wings in front of Sweets so she would play with them.
