Oh, Hullo!
I think there was some calamari left - oh, yes, some of that air kraken calamari on the plate over there, if you like. I hear it goes well with the Manchego cheese. Comes from La Mancha, of course, the home of that Knight of the Doleful Countenance - many of us see Don Quixote as a role model, if not a sort of patron saint - comes from our habit of tilting at windmills, if you will.
And my dear Miss Datura - please, not so formal! Charles, or Captain - "Sir" Charles if you really must, but it isn't necessary. No need to stand on ceremony here, of all places.
SM - you do realize that you have a bat - or something furry, at least - hanging from your ear, right?
Cheers!
Chas.

Ah, yes, Sir P! Ponche Caballero it is!
I got some quite good tea whilst I was seconded to the Naval Forces in Spain - nipped across to Gib, you know - Sacarello's, the best teas and coffees on the Iberian Peninsula! Ah, yes, those were the days. Breakfast at the Angry Friar - we called it the Mad Monk, o' course - luncheon at the Cannon Bar just up behind the Cathedral; tea at Sacarello's; then perhaps dinner at the Viceroy of India, in Horse Barrack Court.
But Spain has its own special things to make up for the teas - and we could usually pick up PG Tips or Jackson's or Yorkshire Tea in the tiendas. But cafe con leche watching the sun breaking through the morning mists at the Alhambra, or La Cartuja where they have those magical horses; sherry in a bodega in the town that sherry is named for, flavored with a few drops from the last remaining cask of 1850; riding a magnificent Arabian along the beach in a pounding, electrifying gallop in the morning sun... yes, you could say I miss it. Just a bit.
Cheers!
Chas.

Have a bottle in my bag too....although he Spanish seem to have misplaced Gibraltar on their maps... Granada was beautiful although the ex.. with whom I went... likened it to Brighton the markets reminded her of the lanes... no soul sometimes... No time for the Alhambra either .. the ticketing system had been revamped and we couldn't book in time... bears another trip too
Earl Grey sin letche por favor....
with a side order of chorizo to follow

I enjoyed the Alhambra, I found it very Moorish- I couldn't get enough of it, even if they weren't showing any films the day I went... I'll take a G'n'T barkeep. Nice and sharp, unlike my wit.

Oh, no. Now that is sad - I am sorry for your loss. The ticketing system at the Alhambra is indeed odd. We went in October a few years back, and had a wonderful day of it. We were some of the first in, and there weren't many people yet, so we wandered at will. I think I preferred the slightly starker, less overdone atmosphere up in the Generalife, though the Court of the Lions was impressive. I was fighting off the flu at the time, so there are some pictures of me in minor misery - but I still loved it.
For those who go, do check out the ticketing system very thoroughly before you go. There is a Parador at the gate of the Alhambra complex, a little expensive but how many times will you get to go there? I was lucky, as I have made something of a study of the Golden Age of Andalusia, so perhaps I had a better grounding before I got there - being able to read the inscriptions adds something to the experience, I must say.
As for Gibraltar, I cannot discuss it, and its status with Spain, Britain, and the EU without making this far too political, when it shouldn't be. I would suggest that anyone who is interested in some fascinating history look up the news, with special focus on the feelings of the residents of Gibraltar. Or send me a PM.
Cheers!
Chas.

Ah, Vienna!
So sorry. Wish I could do more to help - somebody fetch a hot water bottle, to keep her feet warm. Come over by the fire, settle down here - it may not cure your cold, but you may be more comfortable while you get better. Can we get you anything else?
Cheers
Chas.
