Found this handbill for the Steamwerk Ball, 3rd of July. Perhaps for the younger crowd, an 18+ event.

Perhaps for the younger crowd, an 18+ event. i hope the fact that it's 18+ doesn't mean you're dismissing us off the bat? if i recall, SPWF was also an 18+ event... oh, and i did post a thread here in the North America boards: http://brassgoggles.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,24177.0.htmland MalContent is referring to the Celtic Fling and Highland Games here at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire, Mt. Hope Estate and Winery http://www.parenfaire.com/celticmain.html

In all reality, "steampunk" is anachronistic, innit? Otherwise it's just Victorian dress-up.

not exactly, although we would welcome your grandmother. last year was our inaugural event and i can honestly say that the ages in attendance ranged from early twenties to early forties (and this is only of people that i either know personally or met that evening). we had vendors in their mid- to late-forties who were dancing and carrying on more than attendees half their ages. i will most assuredly be there, and gods help us all, i may even be in a dress. that in itself is worth making the trek!

Hey, as far as daytime all-ages stuff goes, how about these? http://www.wheatonarts.org/http://www.hcsv.org/Wheaton Village is a Victorian-style glass factory village, with shops and a really neat museum, a small ride-able train, and plenty of picnic space. And Cold Springs is a collection of old Victorian buildings near Cape May, with living history reenactors in each one, and a good resteraunt and bakery and all sorts of other things. Both seem pretty open to having different groups come in (heck, Wheaton is having a fantasy-type Renaissance faire this weekend) and both are very pretty and not very expensive for a day of exploring.

Cold Spring had a couple of pirate groups, just about this time last summer. There's definitely alot of potential in both of Sil's suggestions - although I'd suggest that anyone approaching them have a definitive & presentable plan.

Well there already was an email sent to the Steamadelphia yahoo group about the Hobby Fair at Cold Springs. My thought though, was some sort of picnic or group lunch at one of them, possibly during one of the antique fairs they both have. We could do some shopping, tour the houses, then all get together for lunch and show off our new finds. I've not been to the Wheaton antique fair weekend, but Cold Springs was rather good and they're likely to have alot of the same vendors.

In August... if we want to raid a pre-existing event, Cold Springs is having their antiques show on the 7th and 8th, and their Hobby Fair on the 22 and 23. Wheaton is having an antique fire engine show on the 15th as well, and thats free to attend the show (you have to pay separately to go inside the museum I believe, but its only a few dollars)
Also, I once again talked to the museum I volunteer at today, and one of the other ladies is willing to help me set up some sort of picnic or tea or something. The only problem we have is the museum's refrigerator is literally smaller than your average breadbox, so food would need to either not need refrigeration, or would have to come packed in a cooler.

Be nice if they did well and had another in six month's time, when wearing wool wouldn't invite heat prostration and a humid soaking at 10PM.

you are aware of the fact that it is an indoor venue and most are heavily air-conditioned, right? that, and wool comes in different weights...
