Ladies, Gents, et al,
That last is reminiscent of the American "Redneck's Last Words"- " I ain't drunk, ya'll watch this!"
The MacNaughten Clan Motto: " I Hoip In God."
Personal Favorite:Moneta Loquatia, Taurian Faeces Pedester. My Latin is pretty rusty, also...if one of my more learned colleagues cares to correct it, I would be grateful, but I think the gist of it is clear.
Regards, Thistlewaite

This thread motivated me to actually look my family motto up. Gradatim vincimus "We conquer by degrees"
personal motto. When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. That's why you pack a proper toolbox.

A motto that several of my D&D characters lived by: There is no problem that can't be solved with the proper application of a sledge hammer. Annnnnd the mantra that gets me through daily life and take ownership of it: Regardless of who's fault it is, I am responsible.

Not a motto, but a very apt prayer I think over often: Lord, give me health and strength, I'll steal the rest.

Annnnnd the mantra that gets me through daily life and take ownership of it: Regardless of who's fault it is, I am responsible. Warrior's Code, that one. Reminds me of a short poem; It's not my job to run the train, The whistle I don't blow. I do not choose direction, Nor say how far she'll go. I do not blow the whistle, Or even ring the bell- But let the damn train jump the track, And see who catches hell! Cheers! Thistlewaite

Despite my own leanings in another direction, theologically speaking, I did rather like Alan Shepard's personal prayer said before the launch of Freedom 7... "Please, dear God, don't let me fuck up."

Mine is 'the world is yours. Do what you will'. translation into latin would be appreciated.
My basic life motto is 'drink like an irishman, fight like a german, and talk like an englishman.' I'm quite partial to that one.

1979-81,as a MT3,frocked MT2, then MTSA Patrols 48,50and her final, number 52 then tied to the pier in Pearl Harbor for 3 months as part of the consolidated crew, that's when i got in trouble, I ended up riding DD's for the rest of my active career, DDG-21 for a year then a transfer to Charleston ,SC and the DD-989 for the remainder of my time active. When I got out went back to New Mexico ,joined the reserves ,was assigned as augmentation crew for the USS Haleakala(AE-25), I was a deck seaman when i started out on dd's, MRFN striker when i got out, that is what i was doing in the reserves for 4 years Miles (a sailor) Martin

all of these motto's I like S'ils te mordent, mords les-If they bite thee, bite them Prend moi tel que je suis-Take me as I am Cor nobyle, cor immobyle-A heart noble,a mind determined Fais qui doit, arrive qui pourra-Do your duty, happen what may
Absque sudore et labore nullum opus perfectumest-Without sweat and toil no work is made perfect Adverus solem ne loquitor-Don't speak against the sun(don't waste your time arguing the obvious) Ex hoc momento pendet aeternitas-Eternity is hinged upon this moment
Chi be vive, ben muore-A good life makes an easy death Morta la bestia, morto il veneno-When the beast is dead, the venom is dead
But my favorite by far is this one Dai nemici mi guardo io,dagli amici mi guardi Iddio!-I(will) protect myself from my enemies;may God protect me from my friends!

Ah, Miles - I was aboard after her conversion - would have been 1989. We referred to her as a "Slow Attack". The two Dry Deck Shelters were on board, of course, and I had something to do with all that stuff.
Fun times - I went down a wire in a horse-collar from a helo when we caught up to her in the East Med. Made me feel important - I got aboard before the XO caught up to her, they had left port in Sardinia on two hours notice. What fun!
Cheers!
Chas. PS - saw your PM, will reply.

My personal motto has for many years been: Eall cræft unnytt bið þonne Engel on þinum flintlocum micgeðFor those who don't read Old English: All skill is in vain when an Angel pisses in your flintlock
A motto that I have also used and has been particularly apt, considering my alchemical/pyrotechnic activities: Defecamus luces purpuras

Is é an domhain mo chorp, A chuid uisce, mo chuid fola, A gaoithe, mo anáil, Agus a tine, mo spiorad. I think just gave my spell checker seizures... For those who don't read Gaelic: "The Earth is my body, It's water, my blood, It's wind, my breath, And it's fire, my spirit."

The man who has no fear is not fit for battle, for the lack of fear comes with a lack of sanity. The man who as fear and lets it conquer his soul is a coward, and cowards have no place on the field of battle. The man who accepts his fears and rises above them is a man I want by my side, for only the greatest warriors can conquer a foe as old and powerful as fear.
Just something I made up; not really a motto, but definitely a truth I hold close to heart.
