Try to keep your images small in size when posting your finds. The hunt will last until the 14th of next month.
Don't just rip images from the web, that's cheating that is!

haha ok, we'll see. I've got a full plate lately, but ill try to get some pics.

I dont have an airship just yet, but ive got plans and designs.
That's actually mentioned in my upcoming AetherEmporium interview.

When I got my MCSE in Networking, the classes were held inside Lyndhurst Naval Base in New Jersey. The classrooms were actually built onto the inside wall of the hangar the Hindenburg was housed in. There's a small memorial about 600 yards from the hangar where it crashed and burned. It's now used for training excercises where they actually fly air force jets into one end of the hangar, practice landing them on a full-scale replica of an aircraft carrier deck, then launch them out the other end. The place is so frickin huge that your eyes and brain have difficulty processing it. I remember stepping out into the main hangar and catching movement out of the top corner of my eye, looking up and seeing what I imagined to be squirrels scurrying in the rafters. After a second or two I realized that they werent squirrels at all, but people. My brain did a nasty perceptual lurch and recalibrated the gargantuan scale of the structure. I'd never actually looked UP at something and gotten vertigo before this.

...Clouds. Yeah.

I haven't used my MCSE since then, but it was all worth it just for that experience.

Wow, sounds very very impressive, Datamancer.  It's always hard to try to actually understand the scale of those airships/zeppelins back then - I should attempt to make a trip to the hangers in England before they're completely destroyed.  *sighs*

Radio crystal containing a small spring. This is from where the crystal radios of days of old got their name. Terribly inefficient by today's standard.

Alright, my turn.
Now I don't consider myself to be much of a Victorian or steampunk aficionado, but I do have a healthy interest, and so hunted around the house last night and came up with these. Hopefully some of them will be worth some half-points, at least:

Amongst the items in this collection shot are:
A bowler hat (not a Top, sorry), my bow tie, two leather-bound books ("The plays of John Galsworthy" and "The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayaam"), my walking cane (it breaks down via a set of robust screws, into three parts, and if you unscrew the duck's head handle, there is a spring released test tube with a cork stopper concealed inside the top haft).

Over on the right are the navigation instruments.
My ship's glass and case (with a lovely anchor motif on the lid), engineer's compass, two strength fold away pocket magnifying glass, and a 'map perambulator' - I don't know a proper name for it, can anyone help? - used for tracing out distances along tracks or roads on a variety of scales of map.

Oh, and the traveling trunk, of course.

This, of course is my old brass lock (bought for $10 at a market, bargain!) opened up to reveal its inner workings.

And lastly, my Florentine writing set, bought for me by my wife, as her wedding gift to me. Pretty good present, huh? The seal bears my initials, interwound with each other.

Alright, this is modern: from a cappucino machine. But hell- it's one of the few modern devices that both has a pressure valve, and emits steam!

It's awful that this plastic push button is the remnant of the noble heritage of the Lion door Knocker.

My hunt so far:

Ok this is the big one. I collected a lot of things so I am going to post the picture then tell what's in it.

Cogs from an old clock, a hotwheels Airship that I borrowed from my son, Goggles that I use for all of my work that requires it, A Wrench from the tool box (sitting on the teacup), A Brass Door Knob one of the originals from a closet in the house from the 1920s, An old Key that was used to wind a clock, A Spring again from an old clock, Leather Bound Book at least I think it is the HUGE dictionary, Automaton or wind up toy a little robosapien from McD again borrowed from my son, A Pressure Gauge on my bicycle pump, Something Rusty the armillary on the left is rusty from being outside all winter it is going back in the garden, Oil just poured into the teacup (hey I needed a teacup in the picture and oil!), An old Globe mine from when I was a child, Granny Boots I wear often, A walking cane that is also an umbrella, A crystal attached to the copper pipe this is actually a flashlight.  There are a few other items in the photo like one of my calligraphy sets of which I have a whole shoebox full of more stuff like inks and such, several of the trains from the train collection which really needs its own room, a really cool candlestick that has lion feet, there is also a variety of stuff on the 2 tiered stand like the cogs, the airship, some shells, and some handmade fossils. If you need more pictures let me know.

Or is it just in case, during your daily rambles, you suddenly need to demonstrate a basic chemistry lesson to a passing class of schoolchildren? Have any of these things happened to you; have you actually used it?
