No, indeed. But far too easy to slur. Personally, I like:

"Confusion to Bony" (Bonaparte)
"Wives and sweethearts, may they never meet."

Here you go, gents...

Ahem...

Anyone know any other "classic" toasts?

THE QUEEN!

Short- and to the point, which is what we look for in something that means holding a drink in one's hand but being prevented from drinking it.

*Stands, bows slightly, and tips Pith helmet*

I do beg your pardon, Ma'am...I did not see you come in....
"To the Queen!"
*Drains glass.*
Well, shall I fetch another round? What's your pleasure, M'Lady?

You probably did see me, but being in my Engineer's get-up and... bifurcated (!?!) you failed to notice. So no need for the airs and graces, but I appreciate the gesture.

Drinks-wise, I'll have what everybody else's having. Literally.

And lastly, rhetoric and logic:

Not drunk is he who from the floor,
can rise again and still drink more!
But, drunk is he who prostrate lies,
without the power to drink or rise!

Can't well argue with that, no sirs.

Cheers!

As Dean Martin once said, "You're not truly drunk if you can lie on the floor without holding on to something."

....and George Carlin, who said, "You know you're stoned when you reach up and try to brush something off your shoulder, and it's the floor."  Knowing Carlin, however, it's likely he wasn't referring to drink...although that is the original connotation of the slang term "stoned."

*raises glass*
"May those that love us, love us.
And those that don't love us,
 May God turn their hearts,
And if He don't turn their hearts,
 May He turn their ankles.
So we shall know them by their limping!"
*drains glass*

Who's for another?

Well a buddies house in Ireland had this piece of posterboard up there, with dozens and dozens of words for 'drunk' in essence. I even managed, as the token Canadian, to add half a dozen more. In light of that, it's not really worth the effort in keeping up with them.

Pint of honey brown, if we've got any. Cheers.

Gentlemen, and Ladies, if any such be present...,

Barman, a double Absynthe, a couple of sugar cubes, and a flagon of iced water, if you please, Sir...spent the day chasing pirates, you see....if anyone else were about, I should have quite a tale to relate...Encountered the Black Mariah herself, mastered by that black-hearted brigand Baron Marrock...tracked him down above the East Anatomical Islands....oh, thank you kindly, Sir..."To the Queen!"

I would enjoy a tale of daring this stormy night. Nothing like a good tale, be it true or otherwise, to while away the rain.

Horses on any sort of ship is always difficult.

Sergeant Major, I'd very much like to hear this tale. Rumors abound of the Black Mariah, and I'd like to hear your take on it.

Gents, Ladies...

*Thistlewaite finishes drizzling ice water into his Absynthe, and takes a long sip..*
Well, I'll tell you this..she's BIG! That, and she's black as the Devil's heart. She was reported to be in the vicinity of the Anatomical Islands, and I plotted a course there. Her Commander, Baron Marrock, must have some powerful optics...he saw us before we saw him. Apparently, he could even scope what was happening on our bridge. The blackguard even had the temerity to taunt me on the radio-telegraph for having taken off my gloves! Zounds!
What nerve! At that point, I caught sight of the Mariah, and quite a sight she was! I endeavoured to maneuver close enough to open up on her, but she's fast, and there appeared to be some arrangement of curved lenses and mirrors mounted on her hull and ailerons, and, though I managed to loose a few .30 calibre rounds in her direction, I may as well have been shooting at the air...may well have been doing just that, in fact. She's deucedly hard to focus one's optics on...little wonder some say she's a ghost ship...She just...disappeared.....
*Thistlewaite takes another long pull on his drink, and gazes meditatively into the distance...*

Evening Gents and Ladies.

Sorry to hear of you crossing swords with the Black Mariah with nothing to show for it Sgt. Major. Still always glad to be back on TF in one piece, eh? And you might not have done as badly as you think. On our way back to Patiala Depot the Rani Victria, which is my current berth put into Port Jezebel for a bit. Show the flag sort of thing. And they were laying all on for something arriving after us in the big skydock there. The yard foremen were cagey about it, but I know what I saw. Silvered silk mesh by the bolt load as far as I could tell. Now I'm no expert, but it wasn't for some privateers plaything. We didn't stay around to find out what it was, you know how the Princess likes her timekeeping.

Now a drink would be something.

For real drinks, are any members of this club (save TimeTinker who I think we can confirm) coming to the lincoln weekend? Myself and friends will be there in full RVN uniform, coming as the ward-room of the RVNZ Yarmouth Castle (Gunship, 4 heavy guns, 20 souls)

Unfortunately, the RTAFSt. Elmo (Hybrid Underslung Ironclad Ram, 14 remote-controlled repeating guns, two rocket tubes and 14 fictional crew) will be performing escort duty on the far side of the Aether plains that weekend. Hopefully the cavalry will have moved on by then...

Apologies for that, the anti aircraft lighting guns arn't quite ready yet. Engineers keep crapping on about more leyden jars, but I think they're shirking. Ethics, or some other nonsense like that.

I would, but the KXXI is unfortunatly too big to land anywhere close by. Also, I'm waiting on several thousand pounds in protection money which will purchase fuel oil to bring the KXXI to our next stop.
