ACK - this is possibly too late now for most to see - but take a torch for the grotto!

What, are pitchforks optional?  Wink

Well I did make it in the end, and the kids had a good time, especially in the Grotto.  My youngest (aka "Trouble") was obsessed with the waterwheel - obviously an obsession with machinery is genetic.  It was a shame we only got to meet everyone so briefly, but Trouble was past his nap time, and I didn't want to inflict him on everyone.

Here are a few pictures (not many came out I'm afraid - it was darker in the temple than I thought).

-crawls in on her last legs-

Blimey! What an expedition. I'd like to give Steamblast Mary a medal for Patience in the face of the M25. We had a grand, if frustrating time traversing the wilds of south Buckinghamshire, whilst being accosted by Motor-Gremlins, and upon getting to the site of the "ruined" abbey it was clear that it was all worth it.

That, and being locked into the park at the end of the day speaks for itself. Any day that 8 strolling Steamers have to be rescued by a man in sandals on a tandem bike, is a good day.

I gleefully await the pictures that were taken...

We make a stop on the M40 to exorcise the Engine Gremlins, and keep a careful watch for Air Mauruders

A view of the Gothic Tower [the only view not impeded by Pylons, sadly]

Inside the Hermitage. An "orb" appears to have captured on the right.

A merry (but sadly out-of-focus0 group in the Turkish Tent

I'd like to apologise to those that we only had the pleasure of seeing briefly, due to a 2 1/2 hour journey taking 5 hours (the less said about that, the better), and thank everyone for making it a splendid day out.

Lesson for the future: carrying a minion on your shoulders for a few miles while wearing a top hat is not entirely to be recommended.  While he found it hilarious draping himself over it, or using it as a drum, my ears are only just recovering now.

Indeed, but the important thing was that we did in fact meet, however briefly.  The three of you looked completely fabulous, despite your journey from hell!  I, on the other hand, was dishevelled and sweaty with bruised sticky-out ears.

I am truely jelous of those who got to go to such a fine place; from the photos it reminds me a little of  Portmeirion, especially the Turkish tent!

Thank you for coming and making the day a success, we'll have to do some of the other great folly gardens at some point!
