If it hasnt been suggested yet-or mabye it has- but id like to offer up Hamlet (1996). I found it to be rather steampunk. Also, if you really dissect Abney Park's song Dear Ophelia its actually about Ophelia in Hamlet making it, in my opinion a valid connection.

Apparently the Disney remake of it's own '20,000 Leagues Under The Sea' is back in production with an estimated budget of $150 million whilst the Hugh Bonneville starring 'Return of Captain Nemo' will be a completely 'green screen' 3D effort with a budget of just $10 million.
Both projects are being described specifically as 'Steampunk'.
One of these movies will look good and the other one will have decent acting. I doubt either will be much good. Just my personal hunch.

Hi my fellow gentleman, I am here to search help from steampunk specialists, I am in search of a cartoon and a movie, steampunk themed, which I can't find anywhere, no matter how hard I try.
I am thanking in advance for anyone who helps me in my hunt.
Cartoon:
Features a young blond boy who can activate machines using his golden gauntled (or bracelet), he is being chased by the army (I am not sure), and a princess is with him, or something like it. I recall that in a certain episode, he activates a huge tank and can fight the vilains, saving the day.
the machine activation was the plot key, because everyone was after it.
Movie:
This is from a trailer, a couple of agents must invade a tower full of traps, lighting and robots (?), the movie is totally steam punk themed.
I could swear the main character was Sean Connery (but maybe my mind tricked me into "LEG")

Sadly, no, I have watched Steamboy, great anime ^^
I live in Brazil and this cartoon (it's American or european) aired one time in TV Globo, I think it had 24 episodes or less... one of my friends recall this series, but also, can not remenber the name. its 10 years from now, so it's a 90s or early 00s cartoon.

Good question!  Films such as The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec, Hugo, The Three Musketeers, Sucker Punch and apparently the new Sherlock Holmes, all feature Steampunk elements, in many cases quite deliberately. But whether they are any good or not is another matter (I haven't seen them all so can't even give you a personal pov) There are some independent shorts around as well, but the same question applies. |

MechaPanda reminded me of an animated movie I saw once about ten or so years ago that i remember being mildly steampunk: it was set on mars, dealt largely with two types of psychics being trained/used/manipulated by the government, one type were naturally born that way and others had the seeds of psychic abilities that were enhanced by pills given to them by said government; eventually all hell breaks loose (pardon my language) and some psychics make a break for a spaceship which takes them to earth and they create atlantis, during their escape all life on mars is obliterated due to some kind of war or some such thing.
honestly i have asked everyone i know about this movie and no one has a single clue about it, not even a viable lead...anyone got any thoughts?

Don't forget The First Great Train Robbery, and perhaps The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (although this spans several eras). I suggest Benjamin Button because the entire premise was that a clockmaker built a giant clock that registered time backwards, and that caused a baby that was born the night that the clock was unveiled in the train station to age backwards. The First Great Train Robbery stars a young Sean Connery, and it is rife with steampunkery, just on the ground. I do hope this was helpful.
