Did anyone watch Perfect Creature on BBC1 this evening? very much an SP setting for this film; alternative history, a mix of old and new technologies and clothing styles etc; a reasonable but not brilliant film as well
Yes I caught it. A straight to DVD job apparently, directed by a professional FX guy. Possibly why it had better style than content, but the style was great! (and I'll watch anything with Saffron Burrows in it)  |

Well, not in a "movies" thread (that I can recall), but there are a few "Warehouse 13" threads about. I think of it as sort of "post steampunk", which is to say there had been an actual steampunk period circa the Victorian Era and the show takes place in the world that came after. |

The Mutant Chronicles with Thomas Jane and Ron Pearlman.
It's very awesome and VERY Steampunk. I had never watched it till it was on SyFy one afternoon and kept it there to see what it was like and found John Malkovich, Ron Pearlman and Thomas Jane was in it.
Finding it was Steampunk was an after thought that added to its awesomeness.

last saturday I was shopping with my wife and daughter. In one of the stores, there was a little tv set for the children to entertain. It showed parts of Disney movies without any intro about what movie it came from. At one point, there was a scene with a lady and a (uncle) scientist who was making some sort of aparatus. The scientist was wearing a leather helmet with magnifying glasses on little metal arms. I don't know the name of the characters (the sound was turned way down), but I would love to see a picture from the scientist with that helmet.
Pretty vague story, but all I know is that it was from a Disney movie. Can anyone help me on this?

When The Countess and I saw this we were the only people in the cinema for the entire performance...and this was about 5pm on a Saturday. We are both fans of Pearlman and Sean Pertwee, like what we've seen of Thomas Jane's work and I have a thing for Devon Aoki so I thought we'd be in for a treat. It may be 'steampunk' in design and costume etc but we both thought it was a truly dreadful film. |

As an old school Disney fan, now I'm going to be bothered until I figure out what movie of wich you speak. Did it look like an old movie or relitivly recent? "Honey, I shrunk the kids" comes to mind now.

OMG! That is the best news I've heard in awhile. I was soooooo pissed when I read about McG directing! But Fincher? hells yes, that guy is awesome. I love almost all of his work. And here's hoping he really goes into the back story and mental state of Prince Dakkar. |

Going to see Suckerpunch.
Yes, I know it's crass commercialization. Yes, I know it's going to lead to no end of asshattery at conventions.
I don't care.
It has a gigantic samurai with a minigun (WTF?), enormous biplane bombers, zeppelins (The lead shoots one down. Let me say that again: She SHOOTS DOWN A ZEPPELIN.), a dragon for no apparent reason, and no end of WWI-ish scenery/behavior.
And, you know, that's all I really want in a movie.
