The knock-off Sherlock Holmes from Asylum ought to be added to the list if it hasn't already.

The story is very Steampunk indeed with airships, strange weapons and what have you, however I wouldn't recommend a viewing without a stiff drink close at hand as the film is utter bilge. I love a bad movie as much as the next person. Actually I love a bad movie much more than the next person, but the fellow failing to portray Holmes is like some kind of a charisma black hole and the rest of the cast take his lead.

Never mind that stiff drink, pass the bloody bottle  Cheesy

Hmm, I just saw Repo! The Genetic Opera, today and thought how come no one's mentioned it yet?
I would believe it is steam-punk.
Has anyone else seen it?

Just got City of Lost Children.
Anyone who hasn't seen it but wants some inspiration, it's a good one (maybe even great?)
It even has a  storyline
I pretty much only part watched it as I was trying to contact eBay customer service  on a different issue(difficult but not impossible)
Will have to watch again but it has enough interesting stuff going on that won't be a problem (some films are OK on first viewing but you can't watch them twice in quick succession)
Had to get it from Korea but it has English or French) sound track option.
All the text is in Korean though so some of the 'extra' material, isn't
Anyway, I'm glad I got it

All of Jean Pierre-Jeunet's films are excellent.

I'm sure someone else has mentioned it on here before but I can't find any posts about it! Yesterday I watched 'The Call Of C'thulu' (the HP Lovecraft Historical Society silent production made  in 2005 and made to look like it was made in 1925).

I thought it was  really well done. I've not read any HPL but I am  familiar with C'thulu though. Anyone else seen this..have any comments?

I saw this one last week. I thought it was very well done, and it stuck to HPL's story as far as I could recall.

I think the same people are working on a (non-silent, but still b&w) version of "The Whisperer in the Dark".

According to Wikipedia it does deviate very slightly from the original source material.

Nope... we've already covered this. George Miller's films are amazing, and some of my all time favorites, but not a single thing in them is Steampunk. Not even the "gas" powered ornithopter.

"Steampunk" and "post apocalyptic" seem to get muddled by some with interesting frequency.
(Not that they cannot overlap or be combined... they certainly can).

Picked up a few bargain DVD's last week.
'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang', (Dick van Dyke)
 'Dr. Dolittle', (Rex Harrison)
and, part one of The Old Curiosity Shop (with Peter Ustinov) which is great for period costume idea's. (looks like BBC/channel 4?)
Plus, even though I've seen it multiple times, I bought 'V for Vendetta' because it was cheap

Also, from eBay,

Dark Portals, The Chronicles of Vidocq, which is rather good
I watched it twice back to back because I missed some details (and will be watching it again as there are a lot of background details to miss  Wink)
Got 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (Michael Cain, very disappointed with it)
The Time Machine (Orlando Bloom, OK' ish)

I already had quite a few films on the list but this thread has been fantastic for building my collection.
I will be looking for 'First men on the moon' (1964)
My grandfather took me to see it as 'birthday present' when it came out, (I was 7  Grin)
brings back memories every time it's on TV

Hello
I'm a new guy but old.  Was wondering if anyone was a fan of "Life with Father"  Set in the 1880.  Was a 1947 film and ran on Broadway for around 10 years.   I tend towards the light hearted stuff having my fill of war.   "Nam Vet"

Has Steam Trek been mentioned yet? Even if it has, it deserves a second mention because it's just so great.

it might be just me but i feel The Book of eli was steampunkish in nature, Fido as well. like i said might just be me, but i feel steampunk isnt just set to being victorian. i think it can incorporate later eras. and even then it doesnt have to be historically accurate. i just finished reading boneshaker by cheri priest and even she admits she stretched the truth of seattle a lot for the time period she was working around. good book read it. but i guess posst apocalyptic movies such as book of eli and mad max, could just be subcategorized parts of steam punk. dont know. its my opionon i got one you got one, i need sleep before i go to work.

You absolutely sure about that, Winston? I'm unaware of any version of TTM with Orlando Bloom in it. There was a new version came out in 2002 with Guy Pearce and Jeremy Irons and of course the original with Rod Taylor but I'm pretty sure Orlando Bloom's not been in a version..yet.

Use of historical accuracy or later eras isn't the issue, but rather how they are used.
I've said it before, some people jump to "post-apocalyptic = steampunk in all cases" with amusing frequency.
There can be post-apocalyptic steampunk, to be sure.  In fact, it is a very reasonable place to set such stories (9 certainly comes to mind for end-of-the-world steam/diesel elements, among others).
However, I don't think a very compelling case can be made that "posst apocalyptic movies such as book of eli and mad max, could just be subcategorized parts of steam punk".  Certainly, as you stated, it is just your opinion, but there just isn't enough of a connection there for others of us to follow you along those lines of thought.
The style just isn't there, for want of a better world.

That isn't to say that I would be closed to you making the case otherwise. Smiley

Not sure if this actually counts as a 'Steampunk film' per se but Italian horror maestro Dario (father of Aja) Argento is apparently going to make a 'faithful adaptation' of Bram Stoker's classic, Dracula (about  bloody time someone did, says I).

Shooting starts in Italy in January..and 'ché sorpresa'...it's going to be in 3D....*groan*

And while I'm here..

Due in 2011, I, Frankenstein in which the titular body builder  has learned to control his anger (was that ever a problem??) and is working as a Private Investigator in Victorian London and finds himself having to save the world from an uprising of supernatural creatures. Directed by Underworld 3's Patrick Tatopoulos

This does not sound promising. Dario Argento has really let me down with his last few films. =(

I thought 9 was brilliant. It is probably one of my favorite movies, and one of my favorite Tim Burton films for sure! It flowed really well, but I think it is an excellent example of how Steampunk and post-apocalyptic can work extremely well together to create a beautiful piece of greatness.

I just joined the forum, but I wanted to put my two cents in on this movie.  Cheesy
