i saw an add for that yesterday ... he conects himself to a car battery .. odd

Well, when you have an artificial heart you need to keep jump starting, I don't see where a car battery wouldn't be most efficacious.

Apologies if 'thread necromancy' is frowned on around here, but this is a really useful one and it wasn't easy to find; could it be stickied?  We already have master musician and computer game sticky threads.

Has anyone mentioned the second Atlantis movie yet? Also, Mary Poppins is SP? Hmm, maybe that's why I've been an SP fan ever since I was a kid...
But how exactly does it relate to SP?
Wait, how's that song go?
"A spoon full of sugar makes the [pressure gauge] go down."

I know, cruddy joke... XD

Around the world in 80 days (2004)

Haha, "The Clapper" reference. Lol yea, i can see how that would be considered steampunk, especially from the almost batwing webbed-like design of the flying machine in the scene close to the end. And also the asymmetrical layout of random tools and machinery in the laboratory in the opening. And the goggles the test subject was wearing when he was trying out that almost jet engine-like "jetpack." A great suggestion for the list!

More steam-fantasy than steam punk really but in tune with the whole zeitgeist I think - The Fall, Labyrinth (the 86 one  - the goblins have to be the ultimate steampunkers surely?), Adventures of Baron Munchausen and Time Bandits. Of course if your allowing TV series then many of the RKO radio series like King of the Rocket Men and Flash Gordon have to be contenders...

I used to love this when they put it on during the summer when i was a little cog back in the 1980's...

This is sooo tempting...

... yet almost as expensive as building a rocket suit... [$33.95 plus shipping???]

If the inclusion of airships/dirigibles etc constitute 'steampunk' may I suggest The Mummy Returns and the 1962 Irwin Allen produced 'Five Weeks In A Balloon' which not only features the aforementioned dirigible but also stars the incredibly gorgeous Barbara Eden ('Jeannie' from 'I Dream of Jeannie') but also the wonderful Peter Lorre as an arab (watch out for the scene where he pushes his fez back and accidentally exposes a line of white flesh where his dark tan make-up ends!!)

Also 'Zeppelin' (1971), 'The Hindenberg' (1975),

Films with clockwork/Mechanical contraptions should include Guillermo del Toro's vampire flick 'Cronos'
I say, Joe it's jolly frightening out here.
Nonsense dear boy, you should be more like me.

There are multiple threads concerning this. Please use the search function. It is your friend.
Gilded Age Records is a collective of like minded Indie artists, all unified by a common 19th Century/Steampunk theme.

I think there's a whole thread about this somewhere....

I'd say these are the ones that first spring to mind and are reasonably easy to get hold of.

-Howl's moving castle...in fact most Studio Gibli stuff has some steampunk element.
-Steamboy (pure unadulterated steampunk)
-Brazil
-The Prestige
-The Adventures of Baron Munchahusen
-Sleepy Hollow
-Edward Scissorhands
-Metropolis (both versions)

Probably the richest vein of pure steampunk comes from japanese anime, in the US and European film it tends to be more of a garnish than an underlying theme.

A man of eighty has outlived probably three new schools of painting, two of architecture and poetry and a hundred in dress.

The first post, in the spoilers contains a list of movies that are steampunk or have steamy elements in them.

Today I've added Cronos, Labrynth (80's version) Young Sherlock Holmes and another I can't remember (sorry), but please keep suggesting them.

City of Lost Children...  talking brain in a tank? Brass diving suits, a circus strongman, pickpocketing orphans, a 'blind' brass camera eyed cult that steals children away to a disused oil rig to remove their dreams. And it's French.   Saw it years ago and sold my heart to Steam.

It's already in the list (post one in this thread). Wonderful film.

But I note that although 'The Abominable Dr. Phibes' (1971) is rightly on the list it's sequel 'Dr. Phibes Rises Again' (1972) has been omitted.

...my goodness, and I thought there was a lot of stuffed based on Lovecrafts work, I think that probably tops even his huge list of related films/tv shows. There are a lot of remakes in the Verne list but still.

i wonder... could Chitty Chitty Bang Bang be classed as steampunk? because i really like Chitty
For those wondering, my name (Cpt. Kino) the captain part is because I am trying to build a true working airship (that doesn't look like a flying wanker) and am currently in the blueprint stage.
