Just found out that the final episode of Q.E.D. features the one and only Burt Kwouk!

Has anyone seen "Prometheus Triumphant: A Fugue in the Key of Flesh" and if so, other than being a riff on Frankenstein, is it worth watching?

Plot synopsis as follows:
:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1368989/

Europe, the late 19th Century: Janick is a brilliant but ultimately doomed young doctor in a remote town under the black cloud of a great Plague.

His radical theories about life and death make him an outcast, driving him from his position at the medical college and from his beloved Esmeralda, into exile.

Soon after Janick disappears Esmeralda becomes sick, and without his help, shortly dies. Enter a mysterious masked figure who exhumes her newly deceased body, takes her back to his remote lair and begins performing experiments upon it.

Waking to find herself given a new life, Esmeralda slowly begins to re-learn the simple acts of life: eating, walking, dancing... all under the watchful tutelage of her mysterious savior.

As awareness slowly creeps back into her psyche, she begins to wonder what his true motivations are.

Sounds interesting at least.

Has anyone mentioned the Tim Burton/Johnny Depp version of Sweeny Todd? Or Sleepy Hollow?

Hmmm, while I'm not thrilled with my first post being a critical one, I'm driven to make it so.

I thoroughly enjoyed Brotherhood of the Wolf (Le Pacte des loupes).  I own it, and adore it, particularly the musical score.

But if Moulin Rouge is going to be eliminated by virtue of it being merely eyecatching of costume style due to the fact that it involves no steam, then Brotherhood of the Wolf would almost certainly have to be eliminated as well.

On a similar note, if Sweeny Todd is being included, would not From Hell also be so?  The only thing I can see that the former may present that the latter does not is the chair, which is hardly steam-driven.

Anyone mentioned the 2004 film of Jules Vernre's 'Mysterious Island'? I'm halfway through it now and it seems very steamy.

Poor accents, crap acting and cheesy dialogue... oh and dreadful CGI and plot flaws... but steamy nonetheless!

I would suggest Casshern.

Transcends it's anime origins with a healthy dose of steampunk designs, armies of steel robots and huge cogs!

Is there a reason "Voyagers!" isn't allready on this list?

Probably because Voyagers! was a TV show, not a movie :P

Gilded Age Records is a collective of like minded Indie artists, all unified by a common 19th Century/Steampunk theme.

Anybody have a comment about Frank Miller's movie 'The Spirit'?
Yes, I am in touch with reality - it's just that I don't care much for it

It's really THAT bad?

My sister saw it and she hates anything that isn't what she calls a "'normal" film but she said it was okay.

I haven't seen it but what's the biggest thing wrong with it?

Mainly... other than the title and some of the character names, it bears absolutely no resemblance whatsoever to it's source material.

A friend of mine that doesn't really know comic books asked if it was meant to be a sequel to Sin City...

I had hoped that Frank Miller would have done Eisner's work justice, unfortunately he missed the mark by a considerable distance.

I just saw Coraline (2009) and I would say add that to the list.

I may be completely out of line here, but I fail to see anything Steampunk in Mary Poppins other than the Victorian setting. If anything, it was more magical than mechanical, and a classic, to be sure. But why would it be called Steampunk?

I completely agree. I also feel that Coraline (while a great movie and book) is not Steampunk at all in any way.

It seems a lot of people who are newer to the genre like to attribute anything that is remotely whimsical with some kind of old world aesthetics as Steampunk.

And that freaking catamaran train thing!! That one scene made the rest of it totally worth the rental.

I would suggest Casshern.
