LOl how true you are =D

Small update:
Decided on making a different gauge for the back half instead of the large cylinder thing. This is just a progress shot of where i am at so far with it.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The cover is made of basswood, the base is a old air pump from a fish tank. I will make a gauge face and add a needle etc. I will also make a lens for it once it is done.

Stay tuned as i am cutting pvc tonight -=D

Project update (no pics)

Fits off thank you the Watson1 (on irc) whom basically saved the project due to his electrical engineering =)

So it was decided last night that in order for this to be feasible, it would have to be a steam powered Tesla /plasma thrower. It was also decided that a backpack of some nature containing a boiler apparatus would be needed which in turn would power a AC generator in the gun and provide pressure for the fuel which would be sprayed out between the coils. Led's are involved  Grin
So I am adding such a project to the list =) The gun will be finished first of course, but i should have a rough sketch up later today. =)

Thanks =D

I hope you are leaving those knicks and gashes in the front end as they are, darken them once you paint it up and it will look as though you've had it for years. One question though, if your monogoggle had a webcam part in it, mayhaps your gauge could link up to it? some sort of small lcd monitor that shows what your zoom eye sees?

hmm...

Well, if it is a bit too far forward, you can always redrill the holes...

...independently of one another...

...after measuring and marking each one...

...and checking them...

...and then you'll have two perfect holes, and an opportunity to add some detail OVER the erroneous holes!

Seriously, bad luck, but it's an easy mistake-a to make-a in the heat of creation!

Tell you whAt, I'll knock up a couple of diaLs to take the edge off a bit!

it does not have to be perfect. if it has minor imperfections that canot be fixed then when its finished just make it look like it has been made in an orkish manner. roughly cobbled together by a mad man in need of a killing spree  Wink

Hm.... dials... that or you could use them as "vents" for the internal electronics. Just use louvered bits for that, like you would see for... say... car interiors for the a/c and heating breezes...

holy support batman!!  Shocked

Herr Döktor,
any tips on getting holes on something this oddly shaped to line up, i don't mind re drilling as ling as its a sure bet...lol and dials from the master, i am very honored  Grin

Question does a gun HAVE to be symmetrical? the cockeyed thing is kinda growing on my, like it's derived from a twisted mad engineer/scientist's mind =D

Perhaps this fubar was a blessing in disguise?

I must contemplate =D

thanks all!

Symmetry, squareness, right angles, holes drilled on diameters.

All terribly overated, if you ask me.

And I'm suposed to be some sort of engineer.

Does the tube through the hole serve any mechanical purpose, hinge/bearing etc? If not, then go with the flow and use the jauntiness of the angle as a part of the overall aesthetic. Maybe incorporate it as evidence of some sort of field repair. A few battle scars always look good.

The easiest way to make sure holes on the opposite side of things line up is to measure the centre of one, and then do the same on the other side, then drill them one at a time, starting off with a small bit, and working up through the sizes til you get to the one you require.

As to symmetry: plenty of time for symmetrys when your dead!

^Bad Pun.

Seriously, as you'll never see both sides at once, will anyone really ever know..?

A decent drill press and some Vee blocks is a big help when you're working on round bar/tube.

Also, a full set of marking tools, calipers, DTI's, a micrometer, a fully equipped metrology standards room and a team of trained technicians are also good.

Alternatively, taking a bit of time over it with a hand drill and maybe practicing on a bit of scrap first will pay dividends.

I'm with the 'quack' on this Taggert, assymetry should be embraced and all fubars considered as subconcious artistic decisions - at least that's what I tell myself every time I drill holes with my eyes closed (avoids having to wear goggles and getting them dirty!)

Go with what you have created and build on it!!!
