Me and a friend of mine have been working on a cyberpunk vs. steampunk game. It started as an RTS, then a FPS, RTT, and now out of our own technological simplicity a tabletop game  Tongue . I've been working units for the steam armies and I'm having some trouble with really steaming them up. I am trying to keep in the realm of realism but it seems as if you must sacrifice one for the other ( I had to add rayguns, which I was going to avoid, just to get weapons that looked steamy enough).I'm using modified units from here http://www.juniorgeneral.org/load.php?Period=0 , and that gives me the rather basic art medium of MS paint and paper soldiers. I guess what I'm really asking is, can anyone help with advice on how to punk up units while staying realistic?

Sounds like a fun project. I'd say just run an image search on steampunk costume, and see what takes your fancy.

Let us know how it turns out!
