'Fess up, Taggert — you actually do this sort of thing for a living, don't you? Tongue

Forgive me if I missed the answer, but what is the bottle supposed to contain, and have you decided what it actually will contain?

Perhaps there's some sort of optics-related fluid you could name on the label?

(I'd hunt for something more concrete, but I'm out of coffee and so must sleep now.)

Hey that brass trim is a great idea! I might do the same for my raygun case once I find the green felt to line it.

Looking very sweet Taggart - enjoy christmas with people, don't spend too much time on your own tinkering.

Oh, how sweet is that?!

Kinda' bums me out that I'm not an "electronics guy" - stuff like that takes things up a notch in coolness.

A very satisfying evil red glow - how appropriate for Christmas!

Did you use LED's perchance?

Thanks guys  Grin

I did use a led but its a bit more odd than you think. I used the bottom part of one of those lighted ice cubes. I cut the top section off and ground it down till it fit in the main housing snug, this way it's removable if i wanna see out the lens.

Clever improvisation and a very good effect!

Am I right in thinking it's really simple electronics? Like, an LED connected to a battery, or something?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I was thinking of the luggage like metal bands thanks to Rowan, but the part that they would cover is really close to the edge =/

So any ideas etc would be great!

PS i cannot etch brass as i do not have a laser printer =(

Or if the only thing stopping you from doing the brass etching is the lack of a laser printer, try using enamel paint to paint on a resist rather than using toner for the purpose.  Then once the etching has been done, use paint remover to remove the enamel paint.  I think that's the method SteampunkBuilder used some time back to acid etch some brass coronets for someone in the SCA.

Or nail polish apparently works well. Then, of course, nail polish remover.

Update on the lids progress:
Decided to make my own logo. Now mind you this is a bit out of my area (shaping brass etc) but I said what the hell and tried. I am kinda pleased.
The area under will be painted black to make the logo pop more.
It reads PAVT Ind. I.O.R.A ( Professor Albrecht Von Taggërt Industries Interchangeable Ocular Replacement Apparatus)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
=D
Still have some tweaking to do, none of it is permanent yet =)
