Had a round-up of parts in my workshop, and after a trip to a craft shop some 200 miles away (don't ask) and the purchase of a selection of lamp rings, I came up with the germ of an idea, which was further distilled by the acquisition of an antique rook rifle stock; thus was born the Gentleman's Sonic Hunting Piece, or THUNDERBUSS: Alas, still in its most basic form, it still requires metal fittings and fixtures, thermionic valves, copper tubing, control levers, and a trigger. Incidentally, some of the bits'n'bobs in it include a plastic disposable champagne flute, five bases from said champagne flutes, a chromed plastic salt cellar, a discarded ring from my Steamball project, the plastic reel from a used roll of Sellotape, two plastic vase 'things', part of the siren from a dead smoke alarm, castings of the Steamball spigot and several lengths of grey ABS tube, all threaded onto an length of 6mm allthread. PS: I *might* have been a little inspired by Professor Grordborts 'Unnatural Selector'...

That's a mighty snazzy gun you have there Doktor, but wouldn't you know it: I just had the same idea for naming my cannon the other day. You beat me to it, I s'pose, you lucky rat. Still, it's a smashing gun, old chap.

That's looking promising. Of course, I mostly got distracted by trying to work out which bits on the gun corresponded to the bits you listed. But having got over that distraction, it is definitely looking promising

Ah, right right. Of course.
....However, my cannon has such heft that 'thunder' may be a bit of a weak moniker. Hmm. An earthquake may be more accurate, but it just doesn't have the same zing as the "Thunderbuss".

A marvelous looking piece, Herr Doktor. I am positively itching to see the finished product! (As well as lots of WIP photos). Pray tell, what game does one hunt with a Thunderbuss? Or is it used solely for personal defense? ...Is that a Dalek wedged between the cooling fins and the muzzle bell?
...or are you just happy to see me? CK

Just awesome, even without paint, or being finished. Wouldn't happen to have pictures of progress along the way of building it would you?

Very awesome! Seems like a number of us are working on our own rifles and such, myself included. May I ask what did you use for the trigger guard?

You 'might' have been inspired by 'it'? Well, herr Döktor, I dare to doubt that Either way, as others have said, it is already quite impressive Also, where did you aquire a rifle stock? It does not seem like an item one would find in the Ether Bay...More complete items is what I mostly see there

Beautiful work as usual, sir!
It sounds as though a number of other folks on here are also working on rifle-type props. I'm in the planning stages of one myself (though not a raygun-rifle) and this is fantastic motivation for me to get started on that project.
Can't wait to see your progress on this!

That is beautiful, the highest praise I can give it is that it looks real... which I realise now that you've made it, it is. However it looks real as if it had always been. Right, I'm not sure I understand myself now.

When you said champaign flute I had a vision of a victorian beverage holder folding out of the stock.
Lovely work as always sir. Just the thing for those Martian Mammoths.

Thank you all for your interest! ...Is that a Dalek wedged between the cooling fins and the muzzle bell?
No Dalek, but you've given me a fantastic idea for a hunting trophy... Very awesome! Seems like a number of us are working on our own rifles and such, myself included. May I ask what did you use for the trigger guard?
We need to go on Safari! Next stop, Venus! As to the trigger guard, it came with the stock- good old Ebay! Also, where did you aquire a rifle stock? It does not seem like an item one would find in the Ether Bay...More complete items is what I mostly see there It seems I was very lucky indeed- mine was the only bid... When you said champaign flute I had a vision of a victorian beverage holder folding out of the stock.
Lovely work as always sir. Just the thing for those Martian Mammoths.
A hunting rifle with a cup holder, sorry, glass holder..? There's a thought! And if it be Martian Mammoth, would that make it a Tundrabuss..? Incredible, i want one, got bored and threw this together, hope you dont mind. You'll have to 'throw things together' more often! I am both flattered and impressed! More pictures and so forth as and when!

For the glory of steampunk, you MUST take a picture of youurself posing with the thunderbuss while wearing your space helmet I hereby second this motion, with the coda that the good Herr Doktor must also be wearing his pith helmet, and if possible, suitable "on safari" style clothes.
