So in working on my wild west costume, I have run into the problem of what to do with all of the bullet loops on my belt. I would like to find a source for vials that would fit (well) in the loops, as well as other assorted tools/crystals/etc as I may discover along my journeys.
Any good places to look for vials that would fit .45" bullet loops?

.45 colt brass comes to .480 diameter which is 1.2cm so whatever you would look for should be very close to those numbers to have a chance.

Test tubes are a good bet. I'd try to stick with the glass ones. The plastic ones crack at the open end pretty easy.

I'd imagine they don't hold up so well to the flame from a Bunsen burner either.

You might look for 5 mL black powder vials used to pre-measure powder charges. Look for them in gun shops that sell black powder weapons. Of course, you can use eBay, but vials made by different manufacturers may slightly differ in size. Furthermore, most are made of plastics (not bad as glassware so small is likely to be very fragile) but there are also ones made of glass.
You may also go to the shop with laboratory equipment and ask for Wheaton sample vials (they are small bottles with screw-on caps). The smallest ones are 12 mm in diameter, which exactly matches the external dimensions of .45 cartridge.

http://catalog.refinerysupply.com/browseGroup.cfm?item_group_id=83490they come in different sizes with caps shown on their diameter rather than the diameter of the glass vial. so you might want to write them and ask. knowing these people from going in and purchasing directly they may be willing to send you a sample bottle of each size to see if it is what you want. case lots though might be broken to allow you to buy less but if not you can I am sure put the rest up for sale here or else where and unload all you do not want in a hurry and make a little profit I bet too.

Strangly, you can get glitter in test tube like containers from a large variety of craft/toy stores. They may be plastic but they would be a much cheaper alternative if you are short of cash. Possibly only a few dollers for a set of 3 or 4?
