Check out this picture of women rivet heaters: This reduced version is of rather poor quality. If you click on the link below to the original you can see the beauty in these faces. It strikes me that they are probably about my age, or younger. Some of them show a life of hardship but there are plenty of smiles- and hotness. I like how all the men in the background are looking on. I also like how we think of the bad ole days as being segregated but if you're poor you're poor- the white women in this photograph are probably Irish or Ukranian or Norwegian or whatever the oppressed minority du jour was when it was taken. They've got the tongs for slinging rivets and the funnels for catching them. Nobody's wearing a wedding ring. I wonder if there was some mile-high forbidden girder romance between these ladies, some of them look pretty butch. Look at the boots! http://www.johnnypayphone.net/steam/steamy/women-rivet-heaters.jpg

Excellent picture, Mr. Payphone. I wonder if they a) couldn't afford wedding rings, or b) perhaps took their rings off to work, so as to not lose or damage them.

The boots! The boots! Those are fantastic, and I do like some of the details in the photograph, such as all the men in the background staring at these tough but lovely women.

It's all about setting and feeling. Dear me, a penny farthing! Sorry, one-track mind on the wrong track.

I like that term, "been sexy together". I'd rather have a penny farthing than be sexy, thou.

How can this thread be complete without the Divine Sarah? This portrait is by Nadar. And my avatar! (In somewhat larger form.) Sarah Bernhardt is so very, very beautiful...

Is she a pinupstar of the time or something? Perhaps a Betty page of the victorians? She is indeed quite beutifull.

Yea! I love that picture and considered posting it to the forum myself (a bit ago) but wasn't sure how appropriate others would find it to be. For people that have an LJ there is a group (requiring membership) Vintage Sex, full of zeigfield girls and harder stuff. http://community.livejournal.com/vintage_sex/profileOn the issue of Sarah Bernhardt, I have always adored Mucha's ad bills for her....

Well... My avvy, for example is of Theda Bara, a silent movie actress. It's based off this image: If anyone loves old movie stills and the like, I suggest this site: Doctor Macro. Ton's of old silent ladies and gents, and they're high res, which is nice! Well, unless you have dialup.

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but about the real vintage pictures: Do you know how old these ladies are nowadays? They do look lovely though. I wonder if they have granddaughters.

The scarier thought is that one may be ogling one''s great-grandmater or similar familial relative''s excursion into saucy postcard stardom...
