Ok so how many brits would love to see Abney Park or other steampunk bands at the Whitby goth weekend or similar events?  Have Abney Park ever played in the UK? I don't know but the goth festival has been slowly turning more and more steampunk over the past few years and I think it'd be perfect opportunity for American steampunk bands to get recognised in the UK. What do you guys think?

Aye, they've played a few times in the UK now, I saw them at Scala in London at a White Mischief party.  If I remember correctly they also played somewhere moderately Welsh.

However I'd prefer them to play at a Steampunk event that a goth event, same way I'd prefer a goth band to play at a goth event.  I'm just old fashioned like that (that being said, should I ever go to Whitby again, I will be hiding out with the embattled steampunks).

Whitby seems to be merging to be both goth and steampunk.  I see your point about steampunk bands at steampunk events but I love it when steampunks are around goths, our costumes often put their's to shame and we usually have more fun  Grin Personally, I don't care where a band plays too much because I go tosee the band. I'd be happy if Abney Park played at Brudenell Social Club in Leeds.  If you don't know it, it's a crappy little hole in the ground but I love it anyway

They played the March/April Whitby festival a few years back. 2009 I think.

Really? Well don't I feel silly for posting this then if they've already played at Whitby. Why did I not go in 2009!?  Saying that, I probably didn't know about them back in 2009, they're a rather recent discovery for me

Abney Park played Whitby both in 2009 and 2011.

Steampunk bands regularly play Steampunk Central at the Rifle Club Whitby too. (Steampunk traders and socialising in the day and entertainment at night - notwithstanding the cheapest bar prices at the event.)

Steampunk has been growing in influence at Whitby since late 2007 and is now a well established part of the events there.  Other favourite steampunk haunts are Bothams and Sherlocks.
