OK, so I was in contact with the Royal Parks authority about the possibility of holding a (large) picnic a good few months ago (i.e. when it was still warm). They got back to me today. But in theory how would people feel about having a steampunk picnic in Greenwich park this summer?

Well summer seems a long long way away right now, but in theory I'm keen. I think it would be spendid to spend a day in the park with fellow steampunkers in all their steampunk finery. We could also have a look at the Cutty Sark while we are in Greenwich (which alas won't be re-opened until 2010 when the conservation project is due to be completed).

I know it seems ludicrously early but I just wanted to check to see if people were interested before I changed the application form. You see to put up gazebos you need permission in the Royal Parks and I didn't want to be pulled up on it. With my experience last time I felt it might be a good idea to apply earlier this time

Sound like a vast amount of fun to be had, can we use the bandstand? (assuming we find a band)

In theory, yes. In fact they do actively encourage those sort of cultural events at the royal parks. I'll be sure to ask about it anyways. Good thinking batman!

Interested in theory - but it's a while between now and then, and anything could happen... *cue thrilling music*

I would be most interested! A nice summers day out sounds wonderful I may even treat you all to my ukelele musings if there is an available bandstand, so earplugs advised

I'm glad this idea is striking a chord with people (no pun intended). There will hopefully be a bandstand included as it is now in the new application. I for one would welcome a little music from your good self!

You fool! Mwahahaha But no, seriously, if this happens, maybe a nice gentle jam would be in order? There is nothing quite as pleasant as playing music with friends while letting a nice meal work its gentle way through your digestive systems

It is a long way in the future, and I do live a loooong way away. That said, if I can I would plan my yearly stay down in London to coincide with this and will be there if I can.
Kind regards, Allegra xxx

Well, I'm hoping for a Saturday in July. Unfortunately Sundays are not possible because the park puts on some form of summer musical showcase on these days.

Taken aback that Matt posted about something other than weapons. Plus he could've actually told me about this at some point.

Subject to no clashes with RL commitments I would definately be interested in a SP picnic next summer. Just make sure it doesn't clash with Great Dorset Steam Fair

Would definitely be up for a steampunk picnic in the summer, though as others have stated it is quite a while away and would depend upon RL commitments at the time.

Yea. I don't really need definate confirmations at the moment I just wanted to gauge interest in the idea before I went ahead and rebooked the park.

OK, so the forms are off. Just waiting for a response from the commission. I was just wondering what kind of entertainment people would like? I know we have the bandstand so some music is obviously in order. Any volunteers? (I know we have one but that won't go very far! ).
