Isolated hotels bring problems, no public transport, no local shops or restaurants, and no overflow accomodation, and can be very expensive.
There are some which are on the edge of an urban area, and may benefit, the Jarvis Ramada near  Saltaire springs to mind. Googlemaps does not always indicate whether it is in an urban area, satellite photo's help on the but you cannot beat a site visit, what looks accessible may be inaccessible on foot, especially for people with mobility and access problems.

I will have a look over the most recent suggestions, and make a pronouncement.

Aside from the Asylum, Miss Groves is looking into running another Convivial in Cardiff, and is looking for volunteers. With two sets of SP Conrunners, there is always room for a third, fourth, fifth set to run different types of events in different parts of the country at different times of the year.

Hmmm a meet in Cardiff might be fun, I'm based in North Wales so I could make it, maybe for a day. I'll look for post updates Smiley

I was hoping to go to the Asylum but The good lady wife and myself have two young Steampunkets and we don't have the family close by to look after them for the weekened. We will be there in spirit however and are really looking forward to seeing the photos.

I am sorry but may I make one more sugestion you want a stunning location which can accomatate 100+ people, there is some of you who dont want to be stuck in one place all the time, and finally you want it to have some relation to steam.
well may I also present you with
WAVERLEY - the last seagoing Paddle Steamer in the World & the Historic Ship BALMORAL!
 http://www.waverleyexcursions.co.uk/privatecharter.htm
Waverley’s comfortable lounges, bars and restaurant will be open for your enjoyment. She can accommodate 110 guests for a first class sit-down dinner or up to 300 guests for an informal style buffet.
we could seek acomatation in any port and then take to convention to sea and come back to same port or another one further down the coast.
I know this is a very far fetched idea and you really didnt want any more far fetched ideas, I thought if this was even remotely do-able it certainly would make it a stunning event. one that could out shine things like Whitby!

An interesting idea but you need to decide if you are going for its winter base (somewhere doon sooth, dinna ken where)  or summer base (Glasgow). If you want to go for Glasgow, I can help as the Glasgow marketing Bureau is all set up to do all the venue and hotel type research for any group wanting to bring a conference or convention here and also I am city councillor for the city centre. There is an active Steampunk society here. If anyone decides on Glasgow, just let me know and I can meet with the convention people here to start the research balll rolling.
