Well, it's only $20, so it won't hurt me to get this game.

So I was wondering--what are the good steampunk-themed computer and/or video games? The Myst series, of course, must head the list, and I'm guessing Bioshock will find its way on there (I've never played it, so I don't know how good it is), but what else? Surely, that cannot be all!

Mechinarium, while a little short, is a fantastic adventure game.  Great characters and settings, and of course a staple for really good adventure games - great music ^^

Ello again  Smiley
I am positively tired of no PnP steampunk setting as far as I can find so I'm thinking of putting quill to parchment and writing my own.  Wish me luck-

Is Machinarium worth getting then? I know someone that loves adventure games. I'd consider getting it for them. Is it only on Steam?

I just played the demo. It was pretty neat. It's not so much of an adventure game as it is a puzzle game. If your friend enjoys puzzles, then go for it. I don't think it's only for Steam. You can download the game on the actual site.

Also, while playing it, it didn't really come off as steampunk to me. It was more like a post-apocalyptic world with robots. I mean, I guess it was a little steampunk. Well, regardless, it was fun. I'll probably have to get the full game one day.

This is pretty much exactly my take on it as well.  I personally think its well worth the money, especially to help support an indy developer.

Someone will probably want to punch me in the face or hit me in the head with a giant wrench...   but I recoment Monolith's Blood. Not the second one, the first one. And it's not so much Steampunk really. But it does have a lot of victorian elements in it. You could say it's the darker and gothic-er cousin of duke nukem 3D, Doom, Shadow Warrior and Redneck Rampage (among others). There are also a lot of references to Steampunk in this game, especially to certain weapons like a tesla cannon. The level design is outstanding for its time, but it's an old game, so if you enjoy awesome graphics you might not fully enjoy this game cause it was conceived in 1998.
Also, it has a train in it, which you can ride LOL. The game is pretty old, but I think it's still being sold on Amazon, or by their original makers (monolith).

In case you DO find the game and want to play it and can't because of win XP and vista and whatnot, then check this guide which also works for other Build engine games (many of them have been already ported to XP anyway):

Blood was a really good game for the time. I loved Shadow Warrior too, I think that was my fave 3D Realms shooter actually. Damn I'm getting old, I haven't even thought of either of those games in over 10 years lol.

Do excuse me a moment...

"IT BURNS IT BURNS IT BURNS IT BURNS IT BUUURRRRNNNS!"

Sorry, habit, every time I see something to do with Blood it invokes grand memories.

Blood itself is more, I personally would say, Dieselpunk than Steampunk, due to the Thompsons, Flare Pistols (<3) and some of the levels (like the railway train). Good fun though, even if a little old.

Wouldn't call it too steampunk, though.

The Incredible Machine

I LOVE THAT GAME.

Wouldn't call it too steampunk, though.

Maybe not ascetically, but it's certainly got the invention aspect down cold.

That reminds me, I need to find that copy of TIM someone gave me for XP a year or so ago and see if it works on 7...

I don't know if anyone's already mentioned this... But I've just discovered a Facebook game called Steampunk Nation, bit different to the usual Facebook games. I know it's restricted to Facebook users, which can suck...

I'm really really wanting to find a browser/text-based rpg on the net somewhere... Really annoying I can't find anything...

Another facebook game is steamweavers. Sorry about creating its own thread regarding it!

A friend from college works for the games company that is making it as a graphic designer. He told me about it a while back as he knew I liked turn based games.

It's kind of steampunk-esque. It's turn based strategy. The units are steam powered, which basically means you have x amount of resource per turn per unit. This is used up performing actions, such as moving (move further and more steam is used) or attacking/defending. It's in a free open beta at the moment:

http://www.steamweavers.com

I played it a bit as I like turn based games, but sadly have no one to play against now. It also gets a bit repetitive and you tend to just end up amassing artillery.

Neosteam is kinda...steamy....ish. or it seems to be.

Final fantasy 11 and 14 are both semi-steamy-ish in that....some of their stuff is very steampunky and their airships definitely are.

uhh....final fantasy 9 I would consider a steampunk-esque game.

City of Heroes and Champions online both have alot of steampunk stuff IN them but I wouldn't consider them in themselves steampunk.
