Hello, I have been watching this forum for a while and I didn't want to join until I had something to post, so here it is. It has a cool greenish colored flame. It's made from two different grill lighters, some brass pipe, some high temperature glue, some picture wire, and a tightening thing.

try a different link in the list from imageshack. the one you put is a link to the page where the picture is displayed. Use either the "direct link to image" placed in img brackets or the "Thumbnail for forums (1)" just as it is from the linking code list. They should work better

I've always wondered how you managed to get different colored flames...care to share your insight?

The flame color is from some oxidized copper wire i put inside the burner end. (I did that after I took the first three pictures) My camera isn't very good, so I don't think I can get any better pictures, I'll try though.

That looks absolutely delightful. Is the green flame a side-effect of the metals used or did you intentionally put in a metal grille to change the colour of the flame.
I know you from Instructables! I knew I recognised that spinning flame picture from somewhere!

Yes, my flaming vortex of doom. It has since then burnt down, so i think I will make the next one out of metal and in a steampunk style.

You take some copper wire and heat it in a flame, like a gas burner. C.S.

The pet dog? You jest but.. they really did try preserving dead things with electro plating.... Yes copper in a flame goes green, salt (sodium) goes yellow....and so on.

You take some copper wire and heat it in a flame, like a gas burner. C.S. yknow, ive tried putting copper wire over a flame and i cant ever get green flame...does it have to be a certain pure brand wire or something?

If memory serves, then it needs to be a fairly hot and colourless flame, like the one from a gas burner, before you can see the colour of copper. The metal needs to be heated quite a bit and even then it isn't that pronounced. I doubt that one would see anything out of the ordinary by using, say, a normal yellow flame from a candle or something similar. Frank.
