I'd like to offer my support to all the good people who feel frustrated by their single status. But do bear in mind the old nugget about the grass always being greener...

Could part of the problem (if perceived as a problem) be that when people "like us" on BG (i.e. well-mannered, interesting, respectful of others, imaginative, well-rounded etc) find someone, they stick by them? In many other scenes, it seems to be given that Boy Meets Girl (or whatever), they spend time together, then move on. Whereas here, there's talk of forthcoming weddings, recent and long-standing marriages, and generally souls happily building their lives with their chosen Other Halves? True, this means that fewer people are "available" (to use a somewhat coarse term) but the implication is, when you do find that special person, they will blow your socks off.

Isn't that worth holding out for?

@_@

I'm kidding! LOL! Yes, sure Mary, but the thing is, with me in particular, time is marching on, and the more it marches on, the more I get frustrated, fed up, why bother ya know?  To put it plainly....meh. Smiley I think I'm at the point where if I was to meet a man who blew my socks off....first of all, I would be stunned, for wow, that's quite an accomplishment and will of power! LOL! I'd be scared s*%#tless to even look at him, never mind have the notion that he'd be ever interested in me back...sorry for being glum about it...but that's reality I'm afraid...I closed the fairy tale book a long time ago I'm afraid. Sad

Eminently single, I'm afraid. For some reason, the men I know seem to have an abject horror of entering a relationship with a bisexual woman, and a mad scientist to boot.

Same problem, but the other way round   Undecided

The original wording, "If you are bisexual, that only means potential lovers have more competition", sounded pretty shallow to me, miss Wink Which is why I did not use it.

Ah if only there were some more truth in that for me, even if it is shallow... I tend to be probably a bit too picky with people -the worst bit about it is that you feel so bad for telling someone you don't have a crush on them & trying to explaining that you like them as a person, but just don't have that sort of interest  Sad
My other big problem is that I tend to get crushes on girls who then come out about about a few months or so later -but heigh ho thats life I suppose!  Tongue
Something that also makes it a bit odd is that most of my friend are female, so any relationships are a bit awkward within the group & theres no guys around who are really a possibility who I'd be interested in. Still I'm off to uni soon so there'll soon be a change of people Shocked

Having said all of that, I'm not actualy too unhappy with being single & Frank Sinatra does well for those melancholy moments Wink

Your situation sounds like a mix of mine: I have got many a female friend, but no girlfriend, for instance. Good luck with Cupid Smiley

I'm single, and the city I live in is notorious for it's absolutely terrible dating scene. There is nowhere to meet people. Fine place for raising a family, but you'd better already have one in place when you get here. Those of us who were born here are just out of luck.
Not to mention that even if I did meet someone, I'm off to China for two and a half months at the beginning of next year, and when I return I've only about 6 months before I move to Portland for grad school. maybe I'll have better luck there.

I closed the fairy tale book a long time ago I'm afraid. Sad

Fairy tales? You notice how fairy tales always ends with them riding off into the sunset once the prince has won the princess's heart and all that? They never go on to say about he's got to learn to deal with her body image neuroses, and she's realises too late he only changes his socks when there's an "R" in the month? As Hellboy said- "Look at her. She's my world. I'd die for her. Then she asks me to do the dishes..."

Grass is always greener...

Actually, I logged on to write a long polemic about not letting western society's expectations etc get to you, but you don't need a lecture. You need a perk-up!

Yep, single.  Although I prefer the term "unavailable" better.  Not dating or being in a relationship is my choice, after so many really spectacularly bad breakups.  Many involving felony assault being perpetrated on my person or property.
I choose the wrong women so often that I just decided to not choose anyone anymore, as the best indication that a woman is totally stark raving barking fuckin mad is that she's attracted/attractive to me.
Plus, I have a lot of stuff going on, who has the time to really get beaten up, stabbed, shot at, or set on fire?  Ah, l'amour. Roll Eyes

All the ladies here are 5 years older than me v__v. I feel youthful, and unfortunate (although I have nothing against dating older women, last time I went through with such a thing there was an age superiority undertone *which was unappreciated*). Why must this be the mean age of steampunk, is it because most 19 year olds are too busy with the world? I must say it's a depressing sight, as steampunk is the most beautiful think to have come out of modern society in years. It is the return to an era where men are men, yet it holds on to the intellectual rights of women. It takes the best of both worlds, which is amazing because most modern ideals often try to take the worst of both. It grasps on to crafts as the peaceful cornerstone, at which people can agree, whereas the modern world makes without originality, and takes the power away from the artificer.

Alas perhaps there are younger Steampunky women who are simply terrified of people who are way too comfortable with the net such as me.

Course I've always been a little apprehensive to dating on the net; while this is a respectable community, there is nothing stopping someone who is not respectable from joining. Sad

*by the way Mary you are quite beautiful  Grin , I can imagine 500 men will jump in front of me to say such >>* Indubitably though modesty is a beautiful thing, one can be both modest AND beautiful :3 . At least your shoulders are covered Tongue

But it made my day all the same! I wouldn't have the nerve to post a picture of me in that context.

Unless I ACTUALLY looked like that. Then I'd be posting so many dam' pictures of myself you couldn't move for 'em.

*Raises Hand* Single here!  My own doing, I'm afraid.  The qualities I value most in the opposite sex, taken all together, would require at least 2 women to satisfy them.  Brains, imagination, an active curiosity, all turn me on in a big way; all my most memorable amours have been with such women.  Yet, when I get home after a hard day at work, all I want is uncomplicated comfort- a tall drink, dinner, my sweetie purring on the sofa while I massage her to sleep and 'pitch to the devil' all that stimulating challengy stuff.  20-odd years of dating and I've yet to figure a way to reconcile this conflict.

I feel sad for you, for you are doomed to never find the perfect woman who encompasses all of these traits that you urn for! LOL...May as well get a Cherry 2000 and program her to your liking Smiley Sorry for the grumpy reply, but you sir, are one of the millions of the majority of the male population, that I have sadly came across upon learning my discovery, that I unfortunately like the opposite sex. *grumbles* I so hope one day, that you do figure out how to reconcile your conflict...for us girls that some what, maybe, a little bit...possess some of these traits, are doomed to lead a lonely life as well, due to your overbearing need for perfection *scoffs* lighten up.

Single male looking for young lady who will readily let me monitor her heart and lung functions, just for fun not for medical purposes, even if not actually go out with me.
If agreeable to the latter you will have to respect that I am a modeller and gamer.

Terribly single.  All my life, exciting, I know.

So, what my problem is, I make friends with girls, and nothing more can come of it.  I get stuck in what is known as the "friend zone"...  It's not a fun place to be when looking for something more.  Friends, however, are still nice to have.

And trying to date a girl I hardly know just goes badly, I've had a few scrapes with that sort of situation...

Also, on the matter of having "friend-girls", there's always conflict with potential other dates...

I keep myself single, it's pretty obvious at this point.  I'm a bit emotionally self-destructive.

Single, and though not looking for anything serious, perfectly happy to chat/flirt/etc.  There are enough of my pics wandering about this site, I'll provide a new one for this thread (and yes I do just happen to be wearing one of my awesome steampunky shirts today Tongue )

Ah, I see that perhaps I should write a tad bit about myself!  Grin

Well, you see, besides being quite the eccentric bloke, I'm also the over-educated and dapper type. I have an ego the size of mountains, but I try to keep it in check when I can. My romanticism evolves from the old schools of it and I trouble my mind with philosophy, historical and political theory, steampunkery, and of course, my wild imagination. I'm a free spirit with an open mind and list among my heroes Oscar Wilde, Theodore Roosevelt, Emperor Napoleon, and Nikola Tesla. Distance is no problem, as are the usual arbitrary social walls (I'm quite the libertine, y'see) and beauty to me comes from the heart, soul and mind, but physical beauty only serves to compliment those jewels. I live for adventure, have a messiah complex (what kind of madman doesn't?!) and am ever studious of anything that catches my fancy.

Wish to know more? Message me!  Cool

I too am single - been that way for 7 years now.  Not sure why, but for some reason (lazy?) I seem to have stopped looking... Sad

I'm 30, with a Victorian gentleman's figure (chubby, Van Dyke beard and receding hairline  - however the first two are optional... Grin ), an Absinthe drinker and a romantic. Looking to share my heart - assuming suitable histocompatibility for transplant - with a female of similar mindset and interest in mad science. Human species under 35 preferred. Size and looks not an issue - I prefer quality of contents, over a 'pretty bottle'. Wink

Ladies, PM me for more, or just to chat / flirt.  Smiley
