Actually, not quite. I've heard good things about Dr. Horrible but have yet to see him, though a friend plans to show me sometime. I'm just a big fan of the whole mad doctor persona, and ever since my artist buddy (same one) drew me wearing a version of one of those coats I've wanted one so badly. I've a big thing for odd medical looking things, and that....if I manage to work up the cash, shall be my nearly-every-day-runnin' round jacket.

Well - your pic looks sort of like a fencing jacket, but the buttons are on the wrong side...

I know some high-end chefs who affect a similar look.  Check your local yellow pages for uniforms or resturant supplies.  The modern chef outfit has the really big pluses of being washable and mostly indestructable.

Hmm, has abit to much of a grim-gothy style for me. Much prefer it brown and the side-buttons were only at the top; giving it a victorian-imperial regalia feel.

Thank you, I'll poke around amongst chef's uniform. I do understand it's a little gothy which is partly why I'd like to look into such a thing made in a different color...perhaps a pale grey. I must admit I do want it fairly grim, because the garb I'm creating is that of one of my favorite sort of mad doctor. It's a semi-serious sort of character!

What about one done in that drab lighter hospital green (used in WWI to about the 30's) with a tan tea dyed stain over it?

I have seen coats like that one in white through Halloween outlets but they are too poor in quality for any real wear.

That's an interesting color as well! It'd certainly have the purpose I want...I'm looking for medical, but not creepy white I've got a clipboard. Something that when I say 'IT'S ALIVE!' tells people that it's just now been stitched up, as well. Also need to dig up a pair of gloves, good ones, useful ones, not those giant ones that look like the good doctor's been doing dishes.

The poor quality halloween ones make for excellent patterns to remake the item in better materials.  Especially of you can get them for dirt cheep after the holiday.

I'll keep that in mind if I try to make my own! Right now I'm looking to get a picture of Miss Mcroy's work. If I did that...not exactly sure what material I'd make it out of. I'd say duckcloth, but I like that too much as is and it's not exactly a garment fabric.

Try trigger it is a bit like thinner duck cloth very durable or twill is very nice too just make sure you wash it before you try to make anything out of it.  The last batch of black twill I got was super stiff but washing it helped greatly.

I'll keep that in mind! Though probably someone else will be making it, my sewing skills are kind of lax. So far the my sewing experience consists of sutures, pillows, and a stupid stunt I pulled in home economics way back when to make it look like I had a bad accident at a sewing machine. That was fun...I digress. How well will trigger cloth take a dye?

It tales plain old rit real well all the cloth in this outfit is dyed trigger with fabric paint stamping.  It started out white.

It is one of my favorite fabrics to work with.  The only thing you have to look out for is the fact it doesn't stretch at all.  Pinking and sealing the edges with fray check or something like it will help it stay looking nice and with a liner it can be quite warm.
