Hmm. Quite. ...At first it looked like a guy in a top-hat and goggles, then a skeleton in goggles, and finally a goat with X-ray specs wearing a Devo hat.
Quite honestly, I thought it was a steampunk owl.

I do love the monocle, but I believe I would rather spell things out. I do anyway, even though I use my gadgets so often that they may very well be extensions of my person. Right, then... Thank you for the rather charming emoticon!

Brilliant. Some of them are technically acronyms. I'm quite nitpicky and pedantic. All we need to do now is to find someone who knows how to turn them into proper encrypted emoticons.

To me, steampunk is a concept, which takes us in an alternative world of Victorian Era. It is the world where everything runs through steam power. Interestingly, H.G. Wells puts the drop of oil in his time machine in his famous treatise “ The Time Machine”. There are no limitations in the concept, expect the usage of steam power. But, everything seems possible through the steam energy, even those tasks, which we find arduous to accomplish through the modern technology. But, some of the aspects of the punk literature seem to be identical to those of the Victorian Gothic culture. This culture is based in vampire, ghosts and may other supernatural concepts. But, at some extent, these supernatural events seem to be the metaphors of the ill-effects of industrialization or extreme capabilities of science and technology. “The Time Machine” and “ The War of the Worlds”, seem to indicate the same things up to some extent. Evolution or it will be better to say devolution of the human to some two creatures – Elois and Morlocks, in “The Time Machine”, indicates the problem, which a person is going to face in the future. On the other hand, invasion of Martians from Mars in “The War of the Worlds” can also be an indication of some horrible future event. It should not be forgotten that the chemical weapons and heat rays have literally been used in the world wars. Still, we do not need to be afraid with these aspects. The steampunk has a lot of positive things to provide. Wonderful punk gadgets for our daily needs and many such things can be the best and positive representations of this concept.
