On the bright side, there's something more than a little steamy about the fact that they're using silver to put you back together...

Yeah. It's cool. There are some fun new topicals for burns and necrosis type stuff. I'm such a nasty person that my first thought on seeing those photographs was, "I wish I could treat one hand with active manuka honey and one with that silver cream, and one with the chlorhexidine cream, oh wait, he's only got two hands, and see which sloughs more and which reaches complete healing fastest..."

Aah yes, burns are never pleasant, i got away really lightly when a modified car i was tinkering with had a high pressure fuel line let go and it sprayed a nearly red hot exhaust with petrol while i was under the bonnet with it, some sixth sense warned me to move damn fast before i knew what was up, but i was still caught in the large ball of flame that erupted from it, it put me on my arse, set fire to my bobble hat (tis cold here in the winter Cheesy ) and my coat and removed all the hair that was out of said bobble hat and the hair stubble on my eyelids melted together the first time i blinked effectivly blinding me till i got to hospital.

I was massively lucky i didnt suffer any scaring, but i did have to walk around for 3 weeks with my face covered in parafin jelly AND suffer the nickname "Scorch" for several years until i killed, um, until my friends forgot about it. Cheesy

Indeed, I often treat minor wounds with Honey, this I'm leaving to modern science. If it becomes infected I get skin grafts.

I can type with the 3 fingers of the right hand that are undamaged.

Now I'm slightly disappointed you don't have some kind of robotic exo-hands, or an automatic voice translating machine, or at least an Igor to dictate to. I kinda figured there must be some kinda perk to terrible hand injuries.

I think perhaps I'll invest in a suitable robot if I ever work with such explosive substances.

yeah growing up a friend decided to cut open an engine and fiddle with the solid fuel.

bad idea.

he tried to light it sitting on a log but it was too windy so he picked it up and tried to light it.

it stuck to his palm for about half a second before it flung out, he was flailing around with sparks flying everywhere.

there was a nice black hole  about the size of a quarter in his palm and all the fingers blistered instantly along with the rest of the palm. the wrinkles at the knuckles were relatively ok, as his fingers were bent and the skin folded on itself.

took months to heal over, no skin grafts. hes lucky he managed to get it to close up without an infection in all that time.

definitely not a rocket scientist.

Yeah. I would not advise you to second-guess your doctor with amusing home remedies, and not all honey is equal for this purpose. But check this out, it's cool, http://www.worldwidewounds.com/2001/november/Molan/honey-as-topical-agent.html  especially the bits about gangrene. Moo hoo ha ha.

Dear lord, that looks simply awful.  As a piano player I deeply empathize the loss of use of your hands!  I once smashed my fingers in a tractor door and couldn't play properly for a few weeks, but that was nothing compared to what you must be going through!  I shall add a prayer for a speedy recovery and perhaps an extra wish that the wife will let you play with your tools again once you're better!  I know I'd be reluctant to let my fiance go back to playing if that happened to him.

Proper lab hygiene is important. This does not mean keeping it clean, rather keeping safe.

Ouch! Reminds me of the time, several years ago, when I got 2nd degree chemical burns on my hand. I feel your pain and hope for your speedy recovery, my friend.

Woof!  I once lost a wrestling match with a water boiler and had bandages and silver cream to my elbow, so I know exactly how you feel.  The whole thing blistered up and all sensation (heat, cold, rain, wind, etc) was registered as pain.

I got better though!  And after the first two years there wasn't any skin color difference either.

Take care, Man.

Netflix got me through when I snapped the ball off my arm bone in my shoulder joint and the doctor said, "I can't cast it, or do surgery, so I'm going to tie your arm to your chest with this bit of strapping.  Sit on your couch for 6 weeks and don't get in a car again for a month after you get home from here or your arm will fall off."  I thought I was going to go crazy, I was so bored.  But then I discovered Farscape!

Ow. That's just– Ow.

And thanks for the object lesson. They say one should learn from the mistakes of others, because you'll never live long enough to make them all yourself.

OOo, yeah. Except the entire wound is probably going to seep, and that'd get the substances all mixed up from one part of the hand to the other. Now if we could burn each finger individually, leaving a two inch border of unburned skin...

Do you have to ask Cheesy?

But it's not so much a case of want to see the video it's a case of "Oh god I'm clikcing on the link, oh god I'm pressing play, oh god it's playing!  ... eeeew! Injuries!" more like an anti-desire/pre-disposition

Chris,

I just came across this thread. Ouch. My condolences and sympathies.

It recalls memories of my best friend from childhood. He moved to Idaho, messed about with some homemade explosives, and nearly blew his face off.

Burns are not fun stuff. And that's coming from a fellow studying to become a forensic arson investigator. Smiley

Be safe, good sir.

Holy crap, man! I'm glad to hear you didn't do more damage. I admit to looking only at your original post, and not reading the rest. I presume your healing is progressing? I've had small (quarter-sized) second degree burns, on a finger and I remember how much THAT little burn hurt. Can't imagine the pain of yours.

Wishing you well soon,

Maxine.
