First photoshoot on our trip to Belgium! At the Masareel center in Kasterlee Belgium (sp on all=?) birch tree: Oh no! Scandalous ankles! and on the next...even more scandalous, a glimpse of thigh. Silghtly less scandalous tree pic, but still ankles: This next batch is by a big old printing press (dad's being an artist-in-residence printmaker here, which is ostensibly why we came. This is a printmaking place thing.) and I saved the best for last:

Me with my female companion: Welcome! Quite dashing good sir, though I must say that the accessory in your arms makes everything else pale in comparison I'm afraid. Good show. DB I know that indeed, but it is no problem at all, since it is a very easy thing for her to make everything else look pale. Which is one of the reasons for me to have fallen in love with this woman. Thank you for the compliments Well, since this is my first post here today I would like to introduce myself with some pictures of me before my prom or Abiball as we call it in Germany I love your hair and those goggles are fantastic Where did you get your vest, sir? Thanks a lot The vest is a very fine piece, which I found at a men's outfitter close to where I live. He told me that he has something that is a little extravagant and showed me this vest and I instantly fell in love with it.

Very very good

No, that is not my macaw. I was setting up before an art-car show and this girl came wandering through the parking lot with a dog on a leash and the macaw on her shoulder. I asked nicely and she took my picture with the bird. It was a very well behaved bird, calm and cooperative.

Ms. Navane, these recent photographs of you are very pleasing, your pose is very gracefully. I can not help it, but whenever I look at the two `Kat in the tree` pics they remind me of that exactly - a cat. Maybe it is the combination of black clothes and the lightheartedness with which you are lurking sitting there...?! Und Dr. von Wolfenstein, willkommen an Bord! I must say, that is a most fancy outfit you are wearing there. Darn, I wish I had something like this back in the day when we had our Abi-Ball. I especially like the vest and the coloured strip of hair... is this your usual hair style, or is this just for the special event you went to? Kind regards, J.F. Dawson

Thanks a lot, I'm happy to have jumped on This were the remains of my hairstyle for the Wave Gotik Treffen in Leipzig. Usually I have different colors in there, like green, but this time I decided to have it dyed blonde/white, to have a little contrast. And about the vest: I didn't even think I would find something like this over here and was actually playing with the thought of making one myself, until I found this one and also got it for a pretty good price. It was a lot of luck involved there. Greetings The Doktor

Was the macaw on a leash? I know people who free fly theirs (ours aren't trained well enough) but ours are either in a carrier, on a leash, or at home. Trying to get a leash on an uncooperative macaw is not fun.
Anyway, cool pictures, thanks.

Nope, no leash. I don't know enough about them to know if its wings were clipped or not. Compared to my friend's Blue and Gold Macaw this one was super mellow.

Given that the gears were on a printing press they will be turning rollers and the like... Depending on the press (and I'm afraid the only press I'm really used to is an 1850's Albion) the gears will be turning rollers to pick up ink and ink the type, move the paper onto/off of the type and press the type and the paper together. I was used to something a lot more manual which was manually inked, the paper was placed in the press, and lowered onto the type, the paper and type were rolled under the press part (one handle) and the platten was pressed down (a second handle) then the process was reversed. It looks like the press is partially disassembled in this photo but this is the very one that I used to use... It used to be in our front room. Z.

Unless it stretched it's wings out you wouldn't be able to tell. Basically you take a pair of scissors to the three or four largest flight feathers on each wing. It's enough to stop them flying well but they can still glide to the ground. Having said that, we don't like it so our macaws aren't clipped. Ours vary from sweet to "pinchy" and under the right (wrong?) circumstances any of them could bite... You don't want to be the object of affection of a scared macaw, trust me. Anyway, back to your regular photo thread and thanks for sharing.... Z.

I wish I could take credit for it... but it was wonderful to work with. Large parts of it were cast iron, some bits were bronze (I think) and the two handles were polished wood. Very smooth feeling I don't know if they were that smooth when it was new, but over 100 years of use wears parts a bit. My dad was heavily into books in all aspects (bindings, paper making, printing) so we had the press, and two compositing stands full of type, leading, the whole nine yards. I loved helping with it when I was younger (up to about 18) but when I went away to University I never really had much time afterward. Still, I have books that we printed together, and lots of good memories. Z.

Actually I'm thinking of doing something similar, though I intend to go for pure white. Did you do the blonde out of choice? Or because of the difficulty of attaining pure white?

as far as printing presses go, a modern etching press like the one i'm posing with looks like this: http://wergerprint.com/links.html (that's the one in dad's studio at home) The one zwack posted is a book press which works quite differently. Katarina, my apologies for not commenting on the photos themselves, but I must say...you really look familiar to me, for some reason Can't place my finger on it... ...? Katarina, I love your whole outfit! where did you find such darling gloves?
ashamed to admit it as I am, the gloves are from hot topic. Other sources: The cape's from Forever XXI in the same mall as the hot topic, it was buried in the "mega-on-sale" rack, it was ony $13. The shirt I got for x-mas, but it came from a local store. The skirt's a thrift store find, and the sandals are $17 at Target. Hat and goggles are from a local costume shop (though the hat was a gift)
