For those wondering what I'm talking about, Arcanepunk is pretty much my take on the Steampunk genre. Take a good dose of Steampunk aesthetics and mix it in with an equal measure of occult trappings, and it's pretty much what you get. Anyways, here's some of the pieces that I've designed for it so far- I figured it's far better to throw all these into one thread, rather than spam the hell out of tactile by creating a separate thread for each item. And if you like any of these items, please click on through to the DeviantArt account where they're hosted- i could always use the extra faves, comments, or pageviews over there. First the eyepatches- my quick variant on goggle design. These were created via the quick recycling of some old gasmask eye lenses: The Scout PatchCreated to help airship scouts in need of a quick boost in vision, this eyepatch has been worked over with a series of traceries known to extend vision, in this particular case, up to twenty times normal magnification. This particular design, of course, was the one made famous by the infamous Lieutenant Fortinbras, during the 1921 Midwich Engagement.
Sold these days under the name "Ocular Enhancement Patch," often with a tagline of "make your one-eyed monster see better!"The Navigator PatchA larger version of the Scout Eyepatch, the navigator patch is designed to link up with the Difference Engine on board an airship in order to view charts, course headings, and other data directly in the navigator's main field of view.
Sold these days under the name "Ocular Enhancement Patch," often with a tagline of "make your one-eyed monster see better!" And more to come- I'll do separate replies to this thread for each item to add to the collection. And please, eel free to comment/critique/whatever these.

On to the next item, the Invocator's Cane. Invocators play heavily into the Arcanepunk setting- think part summoner/part airship pirate for the general concept and you'd be pretty close. The Invocator's CaneRescued from the wreck of the airship Hesperus , The cane of an airship's Invocator is a most potent item. With it, a learned man can call forth the spirits and sigils needed to power the ship, to drive it aloft into the upper atmosphere. He can summon devils to guard his vessel from attackers, and he can rain his curses down upon those who would stand against him.

(Ok, folks, time for the first weapon/glove design I ever pulled off successfully. Enjoy!) The Shock Gauntlet"...Negative charge, stored in the capicitance crystal on the back of the glove are held in reserve until activated by the wear, at which point the charge is released through the glove, along the forward row of rivets across the knuckles. In conjunction with a small amount of kinetic energy, say a punch, the effective damage is often doubled or tripled as a minimum result, and can often..."

(Ok, just one more for now at least.) The Invocator's Knife"Many of you novices may be wondering why we issue the knife to all trainees. Your knife is a tool as much as it is a weapon- whit it, you will draw forth what is needed to perform the basic duties of an Invocator. Summoning, Binding, Banishing, the use of a tool such as this is integral to all of them. The bone and brass blade can be used to channel energy just as easily as it can be used to draw your own blood to create a summoning. The synchronizer on the pommel has been adapted to work with any number of devices, including the interfaces of the airships you will one day help to pilot. And the edge?
"The edge will cut. And you'll be using it on yourselves. As Invocators, you already know this- no power comes without a price. And the price, will always be paid out in one currency- your life. Drop by precious drop. That's what we sell in return for our power."
-Excerpt from a Royal Academy training speech.

You may indeed do so, however the answer is fairly simple- experimentation.

These are marvelous! The design and aesthetic is brilliant. I am amazed by the detail you have incorporated, and specifically like the Gauntlet. Bravo! Also, I'm not sure if you've come across any of this, but it might be helpful for working the occult into your work - look up Aleister Crowley and the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. The latter was a group heavily into such practices during the end of the nineteenth century, and the former was one of its more eccentric members. He rather notably helped translate The Key of Solomon and The Goetia (the Lesser Key of Solomon). There is a list of pentacles in the Key of Solomon that supposedly gave the wearer certain boons or protections. Hopefully some of that appeals to you.

In all honesty- I try to avoid using existing occult symbols on a regular basis, unless I'm going for something specifically from that branch of the occult. You wouldn't believe how many debates I've ended up in at events I'm selling items at, simply because someone decides they disagree with my particular interpretation of a piece of angelic script, or the hebrew lettering I chose to use on one mask design, etc, etc....

Understandable, then. I'm always amazed by the argumentative nature of people in such things. Ah well, your work is wonderful.

I can believe that people seem to get oddly... vicious about that sort of thing (And as my fiancee is now jabbing me in the ribs repeatedly, I have to point out that time I spent fifteen minutes telling a rather stupid sixteen-year-old that Gabriel is not a seraphim was a completely different breed of incident) I'm rather liking your work so far - I have a particular fondness for bone in objects, so my favourite so far is the cane, but they're all really exceptional. You're quite the craftsman.

Thanks! I love working with bone myself- I'm just wishing I could find a good, inexpensive supplier for larger bones, like the half-femur that got used for that cane.

Those objects are wonderful. Your Bone-Capped Cane has a very powerful effect, some Lovecraftian feel to me, it really seems filled with ungodly powers...huuuh *chills*

I'll bet. Never met such an opinionated bunch as ceremonial magicians. Nice work though! I especially like the gauntlet too, though all of it's pretty cool.

I get mine from the butchers - you'd be surprised at how few people want to buy skulls these days. Of course that means cleaning them yourself, and they aren't incredibly cheap, but you get a damn fine pot of soup out of the deal.

May I suggest some more "electric"-looking things sticking out of the glove? Right now it doesn't look very shocky (I dont mean that you should fake electrics, only make it look more like it could really load a chock!)

I was back and forth on it- the original design did call for more wiring, but I decided against it, mostly because it ended up looking too cluttered.

And a big thanks to everyone with the compliments- I'd reply to you all individually, except that that would make this thread get far too fat. In the meantime though, here's another piece- the original inspiration behind the Shock Gauntlet... The Shock Bracer! This one's actually a personal piece, rather than something I built for selling purposes. I've worn it near-constantly for almost a year and a half now.

Amazing work, sir. If you ever need a berth on an airship, 'Gyrfalcon" flies the Elder Sign as its ensign... The nom-de-guerre "M" has rather a ring to it
