Well, we know why he 'drives' it so badly now; 'the TARDIS was designed to have six operators, not one'!

Well, also the fact that the 4th Doctor put in a randomizer so that he could never be quite sure of exactly where he was going so that the Black Guardian couldn't follow him.

Was it? I must have missed that. I wonder if I have that episode in my library. I'll have to check and watch that again if I do. Thanks for pointing it out to me and prompting me to watch more Who Smiley

I expect Doctor Who to either Jump The Shark™ or Grow The Beard™ in 2010. Depends if Mr. Moffat can catch the ball played by RTD.

I've heard of Jump the shark... but "Grow the beard"?

Is this like the Beard-of-sorrow as worn by Jack Bauer to mourn his wife in '24' or the post-traumatic-stress-Vietnam-veteran-Beard as worn by Clint Eastwood at the beginning of Firefox?

A show with a history of approaching 45 years will (and indeed has) jump the shark more than once.
I've stuck with since I was pre-school age & William Hartnell was the current only Doctor.
One of the constant factors throughout that time has been that if you love it one week that is no guarantee that you won't hate it the next & vice versa. It's actually part of this bonkers old show's (enormous) charm.

Given that Mr Moffat has consistently written the best episodes in the recent 4-year run I'd suggest that the shark will remain un-vaulted, although there's always an outside chance that the power will go to his head (mwa-ha-ha-haaaaaa)

Growing the Beard refers to Cmdr. William Riker growing a beard for the second season of Star Trek: The Next Generation. The show took off and only slowed down when he shaved again.

Here here - I like the way he has very basic scary ideas, like "don't go in the shadows" or "don't blink".  Simple, but effective; I'm looking forward to his time as general director or whatever his job title is.

Would anyone else be intrigued by another multiple Doctor story?  Mainly because I'd like to see McGann back in the role of the Doctor, I think it's a shame he only got the one shot at doing it on TV - I think he was marvelous in the TV film, despite it's flaws.

I, for one, look forward to the 2009 movies. Maybe we'll gain some insight into the whole time war thingy. I'd really like to see the time lock on Gallifrey broken. If it's specifically a time lock and not erased from history, there's hope - especially since the allegedly eradicated Daleks are all over the place.

He has done many, many Big Finish Audio books which have considerably enhanced his reputation as a Doctor, and shown what could have been done with a series had it been made... epecially a an excellent one with an Airship..

Colin Baker also has done a number of BF audios, most far better than the retrospectively poor TV scripts he was given.

Yeah, I've listened to one, just the Chimes of Midnight, haven't got my hands on any of the other unfortunately.  Just thought it'd be good if he got another TV role as the Doctor, the more the merrier.

Good call.  I'd like to see more Romana- she's probably my favourite companion from the limited number of 'classic' one's I've seen.

I don't know about resurrecting the Timelords, it can be (and has been argued by some) that actually showing the audience Gallifrey and the Timelords ruined their reputation. You have to admit that as they were portrayed in the old series, they were surprisingly boring and inept for all their power. In The Invasion of Time the Timelords all but ran away crying with flailing arms from the Sontarans

I'm not saying that bringing them back can't be done, or shouldn't be done, but I think they need the same kind of reputation boost the Daleks got in the episode Dalek if the race returns as a force, they need to inspire awe and maybe some terror. It's not impossible to do so without discarding the established ideas of their culture as stagnate and restrictive either. I just think it's a huge plot development that would need to be very carefully planned and orchestrated in order to do itself justice.

Whether or not the Time Lords return, something will have to be done about extending the Doctor's regenerative range before very much longer.  I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out that somehow the whole of the Time Lords were contained within him, allowing him to regenerate forever (although that would be a very RTD thing).

Perhaps if the Time Lords did return they would take a very difference stance from before and seek to control everything else to avoid another Time War?  As much as the Doctor opposed their noninterference policy, I imagine he would like that even less and would be at odds with them.  Which could lead to some new plot threads with them as villains in his eyes.  Since we know they can resurrect the dead, they could resurrect other fallen Time Lords (like the Rani) and send them after him from time-to-time.

I would like to see the Doctor check up on Susan, assuming she wasn't "recalled" for the Time War.

I doubt they will have much difficulty extending the Doctor's regeneration cycle. I can think of five ways to do so just off the top of my head. The cap on number of regenerations almost seems to more of a law than a biological limitation. Several Timelords have attempted schemes by which they would either steal or be awarded the remaining regenerations of another Timelord.

And that's not even counting body possessions. Technically speaking, Pratt, Ainley, and Roberts were all portraying the 13th Master in possession of various bodies.

* There were very vague hints about Neil Gaiman writing for Moffat's Who. At his reading, Gaiman said it would be okay to mention to Moffat that it would be nice. And Moffat agreed that it would be nice.

* It's deliberately vague as to whether River Song recognizes the "essence of the Doctor" or specifically the David Tennant Doctor. But in Moffat's mind, she's met the Tennant Doctor before, and that's not the only Doctor she's met.

Speaking of The Master. In an older episode of Who. the master came to his end of regeneration, but taped into the source. This allowed him to regenerate more than the stock 12 times that plagues Time Lords. guess who closed the source off to prevent it from destroying Gallifrey?

So limiting the Doctor at only 12 would mean that the writers ignored this small (but rather important) fact.

erm no... he used the Eye of Harmony to extend his life to get to Traken.. there he used a brief exposure to the Source to power his stealing of Nyssa's father's Body.....

he used that body until his extermination by the Daleks in the 96 movie.....

Oh ok, but I thought the Doctor explained it as allowing him to extend his regenerative abilities. Maybe I should find those episodes and watch them again.

Hooray, more Cybermen! Smiley They were always my favorite 'bad guys' of the show.

If wish that they'd do an episode or two that showed more of the interior of the TARDIS. Since Christopher Eccleston took over I don't think we've seen anything past the main control room.
