Which is very likely! I suspect the movement the jellyfish tentacles did was from a toy, I have gutted similar toys and the movement cycle is very familiar. You can get an electric motor/gear arrangement cheaply, easily and quickly that way, and the rest wouldn't to hang it off a fishing line. Cheap as chips. They should have been rendered in CGI, but they spent the money on Der Fuhrers Office instead? Fantastic Voyage did the whole Antibody thing better.

Hehe... I love those lines. but they spent the money on Der Fuhrers Office instead? To be fair, those jellyfish were only minor details. There wouldn't be much of an advantage to making them CGI, if they would be doing the exact same thing anyways.

The whole of the BBC is under orders from above to move it's departments randomly around the country, with no increase in the license, EVERYTHING'S stretched! As to post production, unlike most TV dramas, virtually every shot in every episode of Doctor Who has post production/CGI/video treatment done on it, making it still one of the most time consuming and expensive shows on tv. The BBC's moves and the selling off of studio space is another can of worms. Don't get me started. By the way Dr who gets the same budget as all the other BBC dramas and every shot of every recorded program will have gone through post production. The problem here is that the post production budget was used up during filming and an application had to be made for more time and money (not well recieved). OK - the diversity thing. Martha Jones had a family, heritage and attitude. This came through in several episodes, including her reaction to oppression and minority characters. Mel - was there to tick a box on a piece of BBC internal paperwork. Or possibly, family tea-time drama. Fair comment - but so was the original and look what they got up to (St Bartholomew's day massacre, robots of death, seeds of doom etc...). As I said it was never perfect, but it did stand out; even if you just read a script extract. Now its becoming homogenised into everything else. Had to give up on Big Finish, as their dramas became too reliant on fan knowledge and just down right impenetrable. Depends on the writer. But compare Spare Parts to the BBCs current offerings. Well, no one's as original as us! I'm working on the police maxim - one case is suspicious, two is murder... PS: Don't mince your words, tell us what you really think! That would probably involve me jumping up and down; screaming. I suppose i'm a bit jaded. Just before watching this episode, I watched the entire original series of V. The last episode of Dr Who just didn't stand up to a program made 30 years ago on a smaller budget. What has happened. How did we come to this... TTFN Arkwright PS - Somewhere Nigel Kneale is laughing at us...

I suspect the production designers and art people are keeping an professional eye on us, the New Tardis desktop, the Christmas Special, the Doctors White Tie and now a sonic cane. Steampunk sonic screwdrivers are a favourite build amongst steampunks, a sonic cane is that process in reverse. I wonder if they made it and Moff wrote it in rather than the other way round? The Doctor didn't have it last time he donned White tie, and the last Gadget stick was the Brigs cane in SJA.
Of course if the physical effects and art people are pushing it, it will get through to Moff, and Moff is certainly more SP inclined than RTD.

Apparently there was a motorcycle chase in the Hitler epi that was too pricey to film/animate/whatever, but there's a motion-comic version of the storyboards at least, along with some interesting behind the scenes stuff on how they are made. I wish I had seen the epi since I assume it would then make sense, but reruns are coming up next week (this is my 3d day of no power in the house, thank you hurricane Irene). markf

I didn't quite understand why that motorcycle chase would've been needed? I'm glad it wasn't put in,it looked a little too Hollywood.

So Herr Doktor, what will you be building this weekend? And can you bring it to my workshop at The Asylum.
Moff resolved River Song without further shilly-shallying.

My only real disappointment is I wish they'd played with the 'River is hunting the Doctor' storyline for at least a few episodes. She would have made a great arch enemy.
Ah, but they can still do that! He's still alive, she still has her programming, and she still needs to kill him. Though how that'll work with the suit remains to be seen...

If I read it correctly, Mels was the result of the first regeneration, River the result of the second. So any previous attempts on the Doctor's life would have had to be Mels, or the child from the spacesuit. This would also tell us how many lives had been transfered. SO many questions answered, now to see if they stick and become canon

also this is a timelord outside the rules of the timelord council who restrict regenerations. Rivers could have been many more then normal. The Doctor may just have become capable of as many regenerations as required by his popularity
additional notes: Quote "the last time I did this I eneded up a toddler in new york" - Mel
so the little girl become a toddler in her regeneration, and grows up into Mel, who regenerates into River
Ps I hope we see earlier versions of Mel try to kill the doctor

Will reserve judgement on that Mr Addams. Note River Song's body disappeared at the end of Forest of the Dead, her mind saved to the Computer, she was spared the Hell promised to her. A happy ending in retrospect.
River's personality is stored in a computer in the future. The Doctor has a time machine. The flesh can be used to make bodies. Saving someone across time and space (and several series) is the sort of thing The Moff likes to do.

Has anyone spotted any hints towards the conclusion for this season of Doctor Who? There's been a great tendency to write little bits into the early programmes which are then explained in the Season Finale. We think we've spotted an anagram that may be one. Warning - serious spoiler alert: In the episodes "The Rebel Flesh" and "The Almost People", the company was called Morpeth Jetsan. I had a feeling this was an anagram and came up with Monster Japeth, whilst my other half suggested Phantom Jester. I prefer his solution! Now, I'm guessing this will be relevant at the end of the series - has anyone spotted any other "clues", now we're getting towards the end of the run?

Anyone else think that that the master might come back? Perhaps not the same master, but a cloned version? Perhaps the master implanted his consciousness into a computer somewhere, and has a way of making a new body? Kind of odd, him just sacrificing himself like that. Doesn't actually fit his profile.

He's had worse. Trapped beyond time and space? PAH! The Master will find a way to bring back Gallifrey in a safe way, and if it's only because he can't conquer the universe from where Gallifrey is now.

The Master will be back, probably in a new body as his old one was defective.
The Timelords will keep trying to break out from their inprisonment, and will succeed again briefly in the 50th year I suspect, although I personally would like to see a rebel faction escape, but as there were only two dissenters this would be very small unless it was a breakout of those Timelords too young to vote. Now that would salve the Doctors conscience.
Imagine him and River having to deal with 100 sulky teenage timelords!

I was surprised that when Mels regenerated into River (and she was discovering what her new appearance was ) that she didn't comment on the fact that she is now white. After being black for , what..20 years?, since being a child, her first comment is how long and curly her hair is not the fact that she's now caucasian!

Ah! Yes...that's right she does...although I would have expected her (when she sees her hands after the re-gen) to say something like that immediately.

I feel like we won't see the Master for a while, he was only a season and a half ago. If/when he comes back, it will probably be around the 50th anniversary.
